The problem is that many people who call themselves 'socialists' are actually more in the form of national socialists
Stop Demanding Dumb Answers To Hard Questions Demanding Short, Dumb Answers About Hate Speech Makes You A Useful Idiot For Bigots. This post may be less solicitous of your feelings than you may hope. America faces many problems. The easy ones we solve or ignore. We struggle with the hard ones. Hard problems raise complex questions that lack glib, one-word answers. The stubborn thirst for simple answers to hard questions is bad for America. It’s anti-intellectual, pro-ignorance, pro-stupidity, pro-bigotry, pro-reactionary, pro-totalitarianism, pro-tyranny, pro-mob. [...] The core Two-Minute Hate of this carnival was Rep. Elise Stefanik’s demand for yes-or-no answers to questions about whether policies at Harvard, Penn, and MIT would prohibit calling for the genocide of Jews. You might think Elise Stefanik is an unlikely standard-bearer for a crusade against antisemitism, given that she’s a repeat promoter of Great Replacement Theory, the antisemitic trope that Jews are bringing foreigners into America to undermine it. But if you bought Stefanik’s bullshit, you probably didn’t think that far. The college presidents did a rather clumsy job of saying, accurately but unconvincingly, that the answer depends on the context. Stefanik and every politician our loudmouth who wants you to hate and distrust college education and Palestinians pounced on it. And many of you fell for it. You — and I say this with love — absolute ********ing dupes. https://popehat.substack.com/p/stop-demanding-dumb-answers-to-hard

One of the men arrested in this video is our colleague Al-Araby Correspondent Diaa Kahlot, along with his family, who are most definitely not members of Hamas. He and other captives were stripped naked in the street and taken to an unknown location. Here's another take from a (former) member of antisemitism advisory committee at Harvard. Note that he believes Gay to be a decent person. 1/3 Resigning, a Hanukkah Message: As of today I have resigned from the antisemitism advisory committee at Harvard. Without rehashing all of the obvious reasons that have been endlessly adumbrated online, and with great respect for the members of the committee, the short…— David Wolpe (@RabbiWolpe) December 7, 2023
Sorry, I wasn't clear. I know and respect you as a poster and understand you were mocking the dog whistle of merit. I am curious why they didn't do that other university presidents. Well I wasn't curious because you and I both know why.
The problem is two-fold. Not enough is getting in there and then what is getting in there is largely being controlled and taken by Hamas. But one does not negate the other.

Got it--thanks for the clarification. And...yeah. They never explain why so often, the 'best person for the job' just happens to be a white guy.
We're talking about food for two million people: that's a lot of supplies needed, and the limiting factor is the blockade.

We live in a litigious society so even straight forward things like campus rape can be complicated. You keep siding with politicians cause they win gotcha questions and you will end with MAGA people destroying universities. A blanket rule on genocide to Jews. Will mean if a Jewish and black student get into a heated argument over something personal, clothes, a girl or whatever. Jewish person says the N word, black kid says f the Jews, Hitler should have finished you all. Black kid gets expelled and life ruined while Instigator stays at school. Black kids parents sue the school and it loses money plus no bad publicity as you don't care about one minority like you care about another. A college president has to consider a lot of things with legal counsel when making policies. You have continually chosen the most ignorant path on this because you refuse to see that everything a President says can be a problem. These presidents decided not to feed into a gotcha game, like the judge I mentioned earlier and rather clarify and give a long winded statement later with legal advice on their terms.
Gay's later statement condemned speech that threatens genocide. It's hard to understand why she couldn't say that in her testimony. Can't we agree that all threats of genocide should be, at minimum, referred to the school's disciplinary body? (If it's two students arguing, unlikely that any administrator would know about it, and even less likely that disciplinary action would be taken). Students are not capriciously suspended or expelled from school. However, I know two students who recently were suspended from their Ivies for behavior that most of us would consider far less problematic. And also...college presidents are as concerned about donations as any politician would be. At those schools, they're essentially at the helm of a private equity firm -- one that doesn't pay taxes. They have to behave accordingly.
I posted a few weeks ago about the IDF's "habit" of killing journalists and denying responsibility. Here's another IDF killing - this one in southern Lebanon - that investigations describe as "an apparently deliberate attack". Will be interesting to see what the IDF says about it: https://www.nytimes.com/live/2023/1...#reuters-journalist-killed-lebanon-israel-hrw

Appreciate the explanation. Though I don't think I have once sided with any politician on this thread. Now what I don't appreciate is the accusation of my ignorance (and I'm happy to learn where/when I need to), as I can also quite clearly see how many of you are ignorant and have selection bias when it comes to things involving attacks on Jews. Not everything needs to be seen through some political lens. I understand a lot you live your lives on P&CE forum and love to dig into the nitty gritty of American politics, which is obviously totally fine, but there are things that are black&white to me. This was such an example. Feel free to disagree, but seeing the number of people on both sides of the aisle who have voiced similar concerns to say the least, does somehow feels like I'm not alone in this.
Interesting. It makes me wonder how many of those people in that video are actually Hamas fighters and not just journalists or other random men.
A donor is threatening to pull a $100 million donation (or may have done so already, not totally clear from the letter): https://www.axios.com/2023/12/07/upenn-antisemitism-magill-100-million-donation
Pretty scary that, from what I can tell by that chart, something around 42% of 18-29 year olds think the Holocaust either didn't happen or wasn't as bad as is taught. Shocking. It's perhaps even more shocking that fully 20% in that age group think it didn't happen. WTF?
