I'm pretty fed up with this guy as well and cant wait for his trade. Whoever we get will hopefully be a harder worker.
"I tried to have a talk with him," Johnston said after practice. "He refused to speak." The bottom line is that Guevara's not a very bright guy (to say the least).
It’s moments like this when I wish Mike and Chris on WFAN were into the soccer and MLS was big: CHRIS: Oh Mike, this Guevara is hot stuff-he up there in the stands smiling with wife, while Djorkaeff is out there dying! He’s a joke Mike! You can’t go up in the stands ! MIKE: Dawg, no question-Mo’s in an untenable situation now. When he wants to play Amado can make plays-there's quality there. I just don’t know what kind of value there is out there for him now. CHRIS: I’ve had enough of him-I can’t take him anymore. You think Nowak would put up with this? Nichols- MIKE: I can’t argue with that Dawg-I just don’t know what they can get for him- CHRIS: But you agree he’s got go-now he doesn’t want to talk to Mo-Mike the guys a joke, come on! MIKE: Yeah, they gotta do something-he goes or Mo goes. CHRIS: I tell you Mike, Larry with Marbury and Mo with Guevara…
The rumor of Guevara for O'Brien has reared it's ugly head again. I say this because every time I start buying into the rumor, it gets squashed along with my hopes. I promised myself I won't fall for this again.
Here's one source of a few: http://www.bigapplesoccer.com/article.php?article_id=6112 But, since it is rumor, and I really like O'Brien, I refuse to believe this. It won't happen. Not in my lifetime. (somebody kill me please!)
I got a feeling Palencia is going to have a break-out type game Saturday against RBNY. It will be made all the more annoying with Guevara more than likely joining the radio broadcast team to blather on about how RBNY has no heart.
Fine with me if he does the broadcast. He's likely to place his foot firmly in his mouth with some of his comments, IMHO, and get himself into hotter (if possible) water with the team.
The real question is whether he will be in stands at game with his wife, on the bench, or not even there....
New piece here by Ives on the whole Amado fiasco: http://soccernet.espn.go.com/columns/story?id=368372&root=mls&cc=5901
That will be a good move we get ride of our "problem" player and they send us an injury prone player great.
I'll take an injured player over a cancer any day. It's one thing for Guevara to underperform, or even not play, it's another thing entirely when his performance, or lack thereof, brings the whole team down mentally, emotionally, and physically. I think it would be hilarious if Lalas picked Guevara up for the Galaxy--their season would go (even further) in the crapper before you can blink! But seriously, trade him to KC for Johnson or Wolff and accept that we're getting a player who'll be gone for WC duty. Trade him to FCD for ROB, or to Houston for Rico Clark (now THERE'S a DM!). Just get rid of the guy.
