I’m really looking forward to seeing several players in the World Cup, especially Pulisic, Dest, McKennie, and Reyna. Pulisic and Dest are both capable of transcendent moments of brilliance, McKennie is 100% gamer, and Reyna is a brash young guy who wants to destroy everyone he is across the field from.

There are other guys I am excited to see too, like Weah, Adams, Aaronson, Zimmmerman, etc, but those 4 have the ability to rise above anyone on the planet. Should they be so motivated, they can better DeBrunye or anyone else for that matter. They’re all elite players who have already been tested at extremely high levels

Not traditionally, no. Who the Dutch were today.... I’d say that the Dutch were a very beatable team, and Wales, with Hennessy, could have got the win against the Dutch. That one would have been more back and forth. But I think the best version of the Iran team would have really challenged the Dutch. I just think we’re giving them way too much credit.... and not realizing we beat ourselves more than the Dutch beat us.

Wales was one of the weakest team in the World Cup. They made Iran look good because they were so bad. England strolled to their 3-0 win. But of course they almost beat the US so they are a powerhouse now and it was the toughest group so as to explain why Senegal and Ecuador put up a bigger fight against the Dutch than the US.

Gotta find a way to get Paredes all the minutes he can handle at the Olympics. Watching Saka is like looking into our future. The end product isn’t quite there yet but the quick feet and skilled dribbling causes all kinds of problems for any team. Paredes = Saka in one year or less.

My impression from afar is that the player development infrastructure for youth players in Mexico is lacking outside of the very top level of professional academies. My impression is that while fandom and an enthusiasm to play the game are huge, the idea that players need to be developed systematically from a young age is a much more foreign idea. It seems like soccer is more of a past time or recreational or community event than here in the US where soccer and other sports are often more about realizing one's potential.

I'd love for someone with a better knowledge of the youth landscape to chime in because that is simply a hypothesis based on my understanding of Mexican culture/society.

You don't get a Chivas w/o that kind of set up. I think it was Gio Dos Santos that took a ton of stick for being a Brazilian/Mexican Dual Nat and not truly a legit El Tri player. Correct me if I'm wrong on that, but in the past they were far more insular and aggressively anti-dual nat and nationalizing players etc.

Things have changed the past decade as they realized there's a vast collection of dual nat prospects being developed next door that they can pick off relatively easily due to the familial bonds that exist for so many of the players. But as you and others have noted, they may be able to do that as an organization but at least in the past, the teams themselves and especially the fans didn't necessairly welcome it, but then attitudes change when you barely finish ahead of Saudi Arabia in your group and get beat out by a ---- Poland team for 2nd place etc. Now that they're behind Canada and the USMNT, beggars can't be choosers until they can get their development program back on track (which they will, eventually, its impossible to imagine they won't, simply too many resources).

As you know I have tried to explain some of these things. Too many here look at Mex-Americans, Mexicans through a very US centric lens. Far to left of center and far to right. Very one dimensional, generally patronizing and often ignorant.

Mexican kids from here in the US are at a distinct disadvantage down there when it comes to Nat teams. They aren‘t looked at all that well. They need to pretty much disown their US heritage. Want to see ugly. Listen to how the average Mexican talks about anyone in Central America. People are people. Don‘t matter where.

Araujo will garner some slack because Barca signed him, otherwise, not so much.
