Westerlo fired their coach today, after the last four min of their match vs Genk saw neither team do anything in a match where a 1-1 draw suited both parties. There is possible criminal charges coming against the club 🤔 | KVC Westerlo en KRC Genk hielden het na de gelijkmaker voor bekeken. 🤝👀 #WESGNK pic.twitter.com/7zNQHQvi5Y— DAZN België (@DAZN_BENL) March 17, 2024
I think it is more the way the last 5 min played out. Both teams essentially did nothing. See this article about the Disgrace of Gijon. Since then, things like this are looked at under much greater scrutiny. I am not saying that it is correct, but that is what the discussion is about. That and possible match fixing.
When I saw that they were playing in Girona, I assumed they'd be at the La Liga team's stadium. I did not expect them to be playing in an exurb in what looked like a public park. Great backdrop though.
He had a banger against France GRIFFIN YOW HAS THE USYNT BACK IN IT LATE 👀 pic.twitter.com/U1htFe9rwn— CBS Sports Golazo ⚽️ (@CBSSportsGolazo) March 25, 2024
I think it is safe to say that he had a good camp. Also, having met one confirmed opponent, and one potential opponent, I think the US team did well.
We need these guys to keep doing the good work. I'm going out on a limb and saying our pipeline maybe as strong as ever and getting stronger. Belgium is a great place to start. Succeed there and the world comes looking.
He has to be the biggest winner of this camp.... and when you consider how well he is playing for a relatively inferior team in Belgium he is likely to garner a lot of attention this offseason WRT an upward Euro transfer. Mid-table BL or Euro-table Eredivisie?
Impressive international break from Yow. Would be great if he’s one of these young men who really breaks out and becomes a contributor to the NT from a place you weren’t really expecting it. That’s always fun.
So, how good do we or you all think he is? How good can he become from your projections? i know he has had a productive year in belgium but its not always clear how to project the upside from that.
Not a born superstar, but a kid that keeps on improving. With such players hard to tell what his ceiling is. But he easily was the U23 team MVP in those games with nobody close on the team full of huge prospects. Skills wise he is a different player from what he was 2 years ago.
Westerlo is quite a small club. Would be cool to see him move within the Belgian Pro League to a bigger side. Genk, Brugge, Antwerp, Union etc etc
I had no idea he had 7 goals in 800 minutes for the U17 squad during that '19 cycle, including goals against Brazil, Portugal, and Mexico in the U17 Championship Final. I just lumped him in with a bunch of blah's. Pretty clear at this point at bare minimum he has the talent to stick with edge leagues, and probably the talent to play for something pretty decent in a big 5 league, maybe more, as someone posted on twitter, the guys he tore through for that goal against France are all big time France players, no scrubs. He's just legit good. Like found money. I had no idea he was around to add to our depth and quite valuable after the disappointing flame outs of SO MANY WF's from the past few cycles. Having a guy hit from that lost '19 U17 team is huge. Dude doesn't even turn 22 until this fall. Still young.
DC United doesnt have the best track record with youth players. Yow had MLS 937 minutes and already has over 1,500 in Belgium. Hopefully Fletcher can break through
Yow has a had a good season, but it really took off when Westerlo added Romeo Vermant on loan from Club Brugge. He has made constant progression through his two season with Westerlo. I think he will stay one more with them then move onto a bigger club. He needs to show that he can do it for an entire season.
1. The current trend: wide forwards need to score and score a LOT. US right now only has 1 (Puli ) can do that. Weah didn’t score enough esp. from wing. 2. Yow has the ability to score goals esp. when he curled in near post. Most players, like Cowell, will go far post but normally out of the goal.
