I guess the main question will be what kind of compensation do you get in the Swedish 2nd Division. Is it on par with MLS pay??? Slightly lower??? Slightly higher??
From the graph it appears Hammarby spends about 24 million Swedish Kroner on salaries. 24,000,000.00 SEK = 3,491,348.10 USD I think even Curt Onalfo would be able to pull this one off...
Lower, even though Hammarby is a big club, we are on edge of bankruptcy. Due to bad managing and hubris from 2002-2008 we gave players huge paychecks and recruited players way above our moneylimit, and now we are reaping the bad harvest. We are currently thinning dow our squad to make room with new players that dosn't demand high pay. And there is a great distrust of AEG because between the years 2001 and this season AEG did practically nothing as an owner of 49%. Its only last year that AEG woke up and finally understood that something had to be done. They didn't want one of "their" teams to play in the second leauge when our new arena "Nya Söderstadion" stands ready 2013.

Djurgården is begging AEG pls can we play at your stadium pls we don´t have any money and we don´t own any own stadium pls. Djurgården the soul less club in Sweden.
There have been rumors for quite awhile about Hammarby bringing in American players. I believe Kamani Hill has been on trial there recently. Due to their "downsizing" of payroll, I'm not sure they'll pay somebody like Charlie Davies what he's looking for. But you can imagine AEG bringing in some top recruits from the NCAAs. They're free transfers and you wouldn't have to pay them that much. Why not see if some potential Gen Ad players would be interested in Hammarby instead. Kellyn Rowe or Enzo Martinez for instance.
For probably the same reasons as historically big clubs like Leeds United, Nottingham Forest, Derby County, Southampton, Sheffield Wednesday etc. are in the position they are in in England. A combination of poor ownership, poor club management, poor financial investments, and bad signings who don't produce on the field.
True, and those things combined caused their relegation which is the biggest factor in their economic struggles. Hammarbys revenue decreased by almost 45% from one season to the next, which is enough to send most clubs into a economic tailspin.
