Gee, I'm so glad we have the righteously moral GOP leading the way http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A54572-2004Nov16.html
My guess is that DeLay would have as much of a corrosive effect on power, as power would have on him, so I'm leaning with Mr. 1871 on this one.
Delay was once told to put our his cigar as you are not allow to smoke in Federal Buildings. His response was "I am the government".
The funniest thing about this investigation was the DeLay spokesperson who was quoted as saying that "the investigation was politically motivated" or something to that effect.
Given the font, and the underlining, every time I see the Thread Title, it looks to me like: GOD Protecting DeLay. And the scary thing is that such a Threat Title, and some seeminly bizarre article to which it might link, wouldn't surprise me in the least.
Absolute, utter, hypocrisy and corruption of power. How can anyone defend these bastards' practice of howling out of one side of their mouth about law and order and engaging in goalpoast moving for their own? Tom Delay is the selfsame c)cksucker who derailed all attempts to censure Clinton an pushed forward with impeachment proceedings in the name of prosecuting immoral behavior in office. So, where does this guy get off accusing the Austin DA (who, BTW has prosecuted more Democrats than Republicans for corruption and ethics violations) of being a partisan stooge? Come on you GOP bootlicks -- I'm looking at you ITN and Karl -- tell me how you guys justify this stuff. Show your true colors as power-mad crypto-Nazis.
We are in for at least four (likely more) years of this crap because there aren't any repercussions to their actions. Nobody holds anyone accountable for what they do anymore. The media buries the story. The public doesn't care. Dems don't have any power to do anything about it. After gerry-mandering the districts, they don't have to responsive to the constituents. Re-election is guaranteed. A year or so ago, I figured that if Bush was re-elected, a major scandal would bring his administration down. Now, after seeing the crap that the media and public let them get away with, I don't think anything will hurt Bush & Co. Bush could be photgraphed killing a child in the Rose Garden and nobody would hold him accountable. The media would just ask Ed Gillespie and Harry Reid to give their party's responses to the photos and then they'd move onto the entertainment news. It's maddening.
The reason why Tom DeLay and his pals are jumping through all these hoops is because they're afraid that this might stick. Even though Texas is a red state, the state capital is located in a very blue county, Travis County. If you've seen those maps that show which presidential candidate won which counties nationwide, that little blue speck in the middle of Texas is Travis County. The GOP is going to have a very hard time making this go away in Austin. And because it's going down in Austin, there's a very good chance that it'll get to a far enough stage that people will start ratting out other people to save their own skin. It's not inconceivable that one of the people ratted out might be Tom DeLay. The fact that the Republicans are making this move -- when DeLay hasn't even been indicted yet -- shows that they know there might be an indictment forthcoming.
I'm glad the Republicans are taking such a strong line against politically-motivated prosecutors. Sincerely, Ken Starr
