Thank goodness for the top clubs coming through over the weekend and getting rid of the flops and the thugs. LA will be back to mediocre crap like years before the Cup. And DC will hire some more Eurotrash goons to come replace Stoichkov.
Yeah! LA will be back to its mediocre crap like appearing in 3 other MLS Cup Championships! And its insanely ironic that a Burn fan would bash a team for mediocrity when you guys are about as far away from that as we are from light travel... And DC probably won't hire any Euro players this coming year, they'll probably (and hopefully) phase out some older players and sign one Freddy Adu... Most worthless post.... ever! award is officially awarded to this post.
A bit sensitive? I like DC United but they sure do have a collection of the biggest brats/thugs around. Watching Marco, Hristo and Eliseo go after a ref sure is a helluva lot of fun...and great exposure for MLS on national TV!! I don't have anything against the Galaxy but as the 9th best team in the league, it's somehow justice - in the season-long sense of the word - that they didn't advance.
I am glad that from both Conferences the #1 and #2 seeds went through....I wanted to see the Metrostars do better, but I must admit the best 4 teams have qualified for the right to get to the MLS cup
Hey Bryan - open mouth, insert foot. I just like that two squads that had no business in the postseason got knocked out in the first round. On Adu it will be great to see him if that happens, but he's still a bit of a midget so don't expect a championship before Davis, O'Brien, and EJ win the Cup sometime in the next 3 years.
Then say you're glad that the teams are out because you think they weren't the better teams to go through... instead, you called LA mediocre (something they don't have a history of) and DC a bunch of hacks (which is irrelevant to their playoff advancement.) Don't cloak your original post behind some good intent. It maligned two teams who performed as well as they did in the playoffs as they did in the regular season - something that's expected. And, whether or not DC wins a championship is hardly dependent on whether or not they get Adu. Its much more than that. Nevertheless, anyone for all anyone knows, DC could win the MLS Cup next year. After the Fire winning the Supporter's Shield this year, that is as evident as ever.
Hey, maybe if the Inferno sell enough Lemon Bars and Brownies, the Burn can have a marching band to go along with their stadium next year. Mods, take this to Rivalries.
Don't you think that it's a little, uh, short-sighted to be ragging on the Burn's current stadium situation? And by the way, why is it that any thread where people give any sort of editorial comment on individual teams is automatically deemed worthy to be moved to Rivalries?
Because SABuffalo said so... Anyway, dc is a team of hackers, but they did show some class with Olsen. Also to their credit, a decision has been made to add red to their brutally awful home jerseys. Sadly, I may have to quit properly referring to them as the black and white. Any team that blows a 4-0 lead should probably be banned for next year's First-to-5 (I hope) playoffs as well. Everyone remember that Marc Connelly picked LA to win the West
Marc Connelly can't even pick his underwear out of his ass, let alone who will be on top before the season starts.
Wait wait wait... Connoly wasn't the only person to call for the Galaxy to win the west or the MLS cup for that matter. And who in their right mind wouldn't have? The Galaxy were keeping all their key players from a Championship winning team, adding to it with a World Cup Starting XI Defender, AND getting a new stadium. To NOT think the Galaxy would perform well, if not amazing, would be an idiotic comment to make at the beginning of the season. Connoly's prediction was a well educated one and was actually the majority opinion at the time.
have you seen Conolly's predictions record for this season? He would have done better by flipping a coin.
Completely agreed, nevertheless, the Galaxy at the beginning of the year... very well meditated call.
Marred-C Let's not equate majority opinion in sports betting to the passage of law within a perfect democracy just yet. If we're going to talk about MC's reality, let's all remember how he printed one e-mail from a person who mented, via a well reasoned arguement, that it would be reasonable to think LA would have problems in '03 as they had the string of roadies and too many extremely late winners in '02. He offered that to pro athletes confidence is currency. Further, that would likely set the tone for a season long hangover of deficient confidence and fatigue. That same e-mailer was directly called out by MC as having "gall" to pick both KC and Colorado to finish ahead of LA for those reasons and several others printed in the article. Both went on to win the season series with LA and consequently finish well ahead in the West. Check the article, it was written pre-season. Majority opinion or not, quality people have the character to at least admit their mistake, especially if they arrogantly called people out only to then be drasticly wrong. No question the intent of posting the e-mail was to embarass. There was a mention of a column if the galling prediction came true as well. Certainly we will not see MC mention any of it again.
Ok time for facts. Fact: Dallas are mediocre at best Fact: LA have been competitive for many years. Fact: DC Utd were a bit goonish at times during an obviously off season.
