Apologies if this has already been posted... but I didn't remember seeing it on here before.

Goal line technology to be used next year - FIFA

In addition to the goal line technology, I also noticed at the end...
"Referees need to be professional and the linesmen must be specialists. The 2009 Confederations Cup will only use specialist linesmen."

    Any thoughts?

last time i checked, international refs were specialists; cr/4th or ar, for their international careers. at lower levels, they interchange positions just the us lowly grunts.

as to better training, all i can believe is available is better conditioning training, not law/mechanics. the refs need to be faster, stronger, have more stamina to keep up with the pace of international play.

4th official is supposed to be at the same level as the center. like LM cantelejo at the WC06 final

I'll be very interested to see how they handle this. For instance what happens when the A/R says the ball has crossed the line but the system fails to signal that it has (perhaps by failure of the system or it's calibration). I fear this new system will cause more frustations than problems it will solve. Well they've got 2 and half years to get it tweaked.
