James Garner’s game by numbers vs. Wycombe:95 minutes played 34 passes attempted 25 passes completed 8 long passes attempted 4 long passes completed 3 tackles won 2 key passes 1 clearance 1 foul wonBaller. 🎯 pic.twitter.com/WwsxbXDI9v— Statman Dave (@StatmanDave) February 6, 2021 Garner played the full 90 in Forest's 0-3 win. Another good performance in his part by the looks of it, following his MotM display in his first game with his new team. Getting his groove back clearly.
I vaguely remembered his signing but while people in the know thought it was a great pickup, all the talk was about McNeill and his ridiculous goal stats. We’re top scorers in both the PL (49 in 23) and PL2 (39 in 14!). Our goal difference in PL2 is 0.
🗞️ Hannibal Mejbri is in contention to join Solskjaer’s sessions, but this week may come too soon due to an ankle injury. Sources say Mejbri has shown excellent mentality at Carrington as well as contributing on the pitch. #udlatest [@lauriewhitwell]— UtdDistrict (@UtdDistrict) February 8, 2021 Shola Shoretire is set to continue his progression at #mufc by training with the senior squad, possibly as soon as this week #mulive [@lauriewhitwell]— utdreport (@utdreport) February 8, 2021
Shoretire has officially signed his first pro contract with the club. Shola Shoretire trained with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's squad today, having previously been in #MUFC's first-team bubble for a period over the festive period. An exciting talent— Simon Peach (@SimonPeach) February 8, 2021
He was born in Nigeria and holds dual nationality with England (and he's represented England at youth level so far). Incidentally his name is pronounced 'Shor-ay-ti-reh'
Honestly thay last name is English. It doesnt translate to anything. So the commentary are actually saying it correct. Sure -tyre
I honestly assumed it was 'Shore-tire' as well since that's what we were hearing in commentaries. Just found out how his name is allegedly supposed to be pronounced via this article from the club's website yesterday... Shola Shoretire signs first professional contract with Man Utd | Manchester United
I thought so too, not least because that's what the MUTV commentary has been going with and I'd have thought they'd be doing their due diligence. But not according to the contract announcement on the site:- https://www.manutd.com/en/news/detail/shola-shoretire-signs-first-professional-contract-with-man-utd Maybe he's been happy to go by Sure-tyre up till now but wants to use this to set the record straight. Only a month or so ago he did an interview and the guy called him Sure-tyre:-
The reason i questioned it, i am Yoruba and i asked a bunch of people. They didn't recognize. But I'll stand corrected.
Oh I am no authority on it at all - other than I came from a shitty small town in England and have never heard the surname Shoretire either! Edited my post as I was curious and did a bit more digging. I'm not ruling out that the work experience kid on ManUtd.com might have got it wrong too...
Manchester United's January loan policy is already paying off for three players - Dominic Booth - Manchester Evening News Definitely a fan of our seemingly more aggressive loan policies. No sense keeping a player at a club, if he's not playing any real part, thus wasting precious time on his development. Found it interesting that Garner and Chong were shifted to other clubs while Levitt for instance was brought back. Not sure what happened to him at Charlton but it shows they're paying attention and trying to do what's best for the player and his growth. Perhaps spending the next few months back with the U23s is what Levitt needs for now, with the hopes of giving it another crack elsewhere at the start of next season. When it's all said and done, Butt appears to be continuing to do solid work in his new position and responsabilities. Long may it continue...
Neil Wood: "Hannibal [Mejbri] has lots of quality and the frustrating point for him is that there must be about 15 fouls on him per game. At some point if it’s not stopped or if the referee is not protecting him, he’s going to get his leg broken. That’s what I fear for him" [men]— utdreport Academy (@utdreportAcad) February 11, 2021 Neil Wood: "He's [Mejbri] been outstanding for the last couple of games. He was outstanding against Liverpool and I thought he was excellent again [against Blackburn]." [men]— utdreport Academy (@utdreportAcad) February 11, 2021 Neil Wood: "The Accrington game [in the EFL Trophy] the lad broke his nose in the first 10 minutes and he played the whole game with two stents up his nose, there’s not many players who would do that. He’s a lot tougher than he’s given credit for." [men]— utdreport Academy (@utdreportAcad) February 11, 2021 Neil Wood: "I think what a lot of people don’t realise about Hannibal [Mejbri] is that they see him getting fouled, they hear the screams every now and then but he’s a tough cookie." [men]— utdreport Academy (@utdreportAcad) February 11, 2021 Neil Wood: "Hannibal [Mejbri] has lots of quality and the frustrating point for him is that there must be about 15 fouls on him per game. Neil Wood on Shoretire: "As the season has gone on you have seen his talent. His work rate off the ball is excellent, he is the one chasing back and getting tight to people. You see the quality in his technique and his touches." [men]— utdreport Academy (@utdreportAcad) February 11, 2021 Neil Wood on Shoretire: "It's tough for him. He’s just turned 17 and he’s playing against some older lads and he’s had to find a way of coping and he’s done that really well. Looking back to the first game to now he’s done brilliant with that." [men]— utdreport Academy (@utdreportAcad) February 11, 2021 Neil Wood: "He’s [Shoretire] a talent and he’s one you have to be patient with and don’t expect too much too soon and let him develop and keep working." [men]— utdreport Academy (@utdreportAcad) February 11, 2021 Neil Wood: "I think he’s [Shoretire] very mature for his age, he’s not one spot of bother. He plays for the team, he knows the role he’s got to do to improve himself and he works his socks off every day. Anything I ask him to do he’s no problem and he will do it." [men]— utdreport Academy (@utdreportAcad) February 11, 2021 Neil Wood: "If you’d asked Joe [Hugill] to go on loan this year or Hannibal [Mejbri] or Shola [Shoretire] it’s too soon they just wouldn’t cope in a league. I know people say you don’t get much out of a 23s league [but] it’s almost like that year in between they need it." [men]— utdreport Academy (@utdreportAcad) February 11, 2021 Neil Wood has been such a good find from the club (a clear upgrade on what we had previously with Sbragia, that much is certain). Going by the way his teams play but also just hearing him speak about the players, really been a big fan of this hire in every way so far.
can anyone give a reasonable assessment? i ask because i remember watching guys like Larnell Cole, Will Keane, Johnstone, Morrison etc. ball at the U21 level, even win the youth cup and never quite make it
Certainly came out of left field... #MUFC & Wales midfielder Dylan Levitt is closing in on a surprise move to Croatia. Having last month been recalled from a spell with Charlton, a move to top-flight side NK Istra 1961 is now on the cards— Simon Peach (@SimonPeach) February 12, 2021 Will be interesting to see if it actually comes to pass. Didn't make the squad today with the U23s yesterday...
Charlie McNeil has practically buried his old club, City, singlehandedly today: scored all the goals for United in the U18s 4-2 win in the derby.
