I'm going to USA vs Spain on June 4th. I'm assuming that Gillette's policy for flags/banners during international friendlies is the same during MLS games. If that is the case, what is the policy for flags/flag poles? I've heard that there is a 2 ft limit on poles, which doesn't seem to make sense given that flags are usually 3'x5'. I was hoping that you guys could shed some light on the matter...Thanks.
The policy on flags being brought just through security is no pole over 3'. Or, at least, that's what I was told last August.
http://www.gillettestadium.com/stadium_information/index.cfm?ac=prohibited_items For whatever that is worth... I think the rule is that if you get it pre-approved by stadium management then bigger flags can be brought in (read: they bring it in for you and you grab it in the Fort). I have no idea if this still applies for the US games. Garrett would have a better idea on that.
Garrett is currently working on clarifying this. It would be best to contact him for details on this as the rules may be different for this match than for a stand-alone MLS match.
From Garrett, in the other thread: UPDATE No streamers, confetti or other items that can be tossed on the field. Flags, flag poles, banners, large flags, instruments are all kosher for this game but they MUST be brought in at 1:30pm when we meet with US Soccer officials. If things are not brought in at this time they will have to go through general security and there are significant restrictions on what can be brought in through the gates. No Capo Stand. Still looking for people to help out with Tifo. Please email <A href="mailto:Garrett@TheAmericanOutlaws.com">Garrett@TheAmericanOutlaws.com
For USA vs Spain please be at the main gate at 1:30pm to bring stuff in with US Soccer. This includes flags, flag poles. Email me garrett@TheAmericanOutlaws.com
They could allow them ... but not in Mass. Everyone who wants to have flares for the US/Spain game is welcome to enter RI and light up a bunch of flares on that side of the border.
I have never understood the want for flares. I have been to a few games where people light them up and come very close to seriously hurting not themselves but the other near them. I almost got burnt by one in NB and at a US game in DC. Not to be a dick but if I see anyone with them at the US/Spain game I will not hesitate to turn them in to security.
"I want to fight a Rent-a-Cop and not be able to see a Soccer game, while obscuring the view of those who might. I'll bring a flare!"
I could give a rats azz about flares, they are dangerous and usually set off by drunks which make it worse. No confetti or streamers? WTF....only in American, land of the free home of the law suit.
Flares are amazing, and are made more amazing when drunkards are tossing them around like water-balloons.
add some 10 year olds with beckham jerseys running around with their hair on fire and you might be on to something
