    for example Barcelona plays:

    • Gundo- De Jong-Gavi
    • Raphina-Lewa-Felix

I guess NT can not play this as we don't have a DeJong type Player ????
    • Gundo-Kimmich-Musiala
    • Sane-Fulkrug-Gnabry

I guess the difference is best illustrated by comparing the Schweini+Khedira "double 6" (double pivot) + ozil as 10 system Germany had in 2010, with the 2014 World cup system which was more of a genuine 4-3-3 where Schweinsteiger played as a lone 6 (single pivot) with two 8s ahead of him in Kroos and Khedira.

in 2010, the twin 6's both hold midfield in front of the defence, but also operate alternately as 8s to get forward and cover each other. There is a genuine 10 ahead of them. This was a very defensive countering team that played with a low line.

In 2014, Schweinsteiger much more held midfield by himself and did not get forward. Kroos and Khedira played much more as 8s, with no genuine 10

The problem with playing a single pivot system is finding a 6 who is good enough on both sides of the ball. Germany really don't have that player. (the de jong / busquets player)

In the most modern version of this, one fullback plays inverted to help the 6 in midfield in possession. See Zinchenko at Arsenal. This is the same idea with Kimmich, as like Zinchenko he can play both as fullback and as midfielder.

Some of this stuff gets really abstract as players roles on the field change in different phases of the game these days

Can is the best option I see at the moment at 6.
But with Naiglesman being touted as the next man in charge, He could use kimmich or Groetzka in that position and neither are diciplined enough for that role

Yeah the ideal 6 combines great positional awareness with press resistance, ability to receive ball on half turn, passing range etc

I think why a double 6 is better is that Gundo has the all round game for the role, but is also 32 and we need him as an 8 to link up play. Can is taller, a bit younger and can be asked to hold in possession

I think it depends a bit how they want to defend.

It's been interesting at Arsenal with Rice arriving that he is very actively defensively and covers a huge amount of ground so he is better suited to do that from 8

I wonder if Nagelsmann will prefer Kimmich to do that work from 8

it's also been interesting how good Groß was in midfield - he has impressed in England as well.

Groß if he gets called up could be a great backup or even replacement for Can at 6 ... I would still put Kimmich at RB .....

I know we still basically have whole season to play before the euros .. although we cant see how players will develop over the season and be inform by the time the Euros start - but I think Nagelsmann needs to have selected a squad of about 30 - 35 players or so at least and build around that for the next few months .... there are many "If's" (?) in this team.
How much will he tinker to find his starting 11 ??????

Agree. But both Arsenal and Brighton are very comfortable in possession and rarely give the ball away which enables most players to flourish.

Majority Germany players prefer or are more suited to mid to low block tactics who counter teams as shown in the France game.

Definetly think his team will based around the Bayern block and will build around them accordingly but wil require tinkering here and there.

Sandro #Wagner is on the verge to become one of the assistants of Julian #Nagelsmann until the EURO - confirmed ✅
➡️ Nagelsmann wants him and Rudi Völler ist pushing for the former Bayern striker as well. No final decision about Hannes Wolf yet.
➡️ Nagelsmann/Wagner are ready for the national team.

Good. We need more of Wagner’s attitude in the NT.

wonder what's the likelihood of Wagner becoming coach post Nagelsmann, lol.

I think Nagelsmann will coach Euro 2024, maybe if convinced he'll try 1 WC in 2026 but that's likely it for him. I don't really buy he'll want to do this long term project. And he's not cheap option either.

Wagner has experience with young players and also got Unterhaching promoted to 3rd Liga too. And DFB does love whole assistant coach becomes coach.

when one sees Voller, Nagelsmann, Wolf, DFB ALL seem enthusiastic about Wagner it does say something about him from all those involved in DFB.

Also Wagner left Unterhaching after promotion to join DFB as assistant coach for U20. What kind of downgrade is that? My suspicion was always that Wagner was being prepped to be DFB coach somewhere. Like how he went from U20 assistant coach to Senior NT assistant coach when Flick got fired.

PS not saying I want him as coach or don't want him, just bringing up the possibility.

    so no Hannes Wolf

The negotiations between #Nagelsmann & DFB are in final stages now. It’s all going in the right direction ✅

❗️His contract with the DFB is intended to run until the end of the EURO.
After concrete negotiations on Tuesday Nagelsmann is highly motivated to take over as the new manager of ! Still small details to be clarified. Official announcement in the next days.

I fully support the idea of NT coaches only having contracts until the end of that tournament cycle. If things go well you can negotiate an extension, if not it’s easy to separate and look elsewhere.

whats interesting about this is that Young CBs
    -Schlotterbeck, Bella-Kotchap, Thiaw=CL XI
-Bisseck and Morgalla (he's still YNT, highly rated at RB Salzburg and DFB)=CL bench
-Schmidt (another YNT)=could get some EL XI this season

so your saying one shouldn't do a DFB and renew with coach before tourney like they did with Di Salvo and U21 only for him to bomb as he was experimenting with tourney and DFB wasn't gonna fire him after just extending, LOL.

Bella-Kotchap wasn’t to blame for the first and third Arsenal goals but could have done better on the second one.

    Brilliant assist by Musiala.

Bella-Kotchap is unlikely to get NT call up anyways. Eredivisie isn't that high of a level, needs to return to top 4 league. So very unlikely makes Euro 2024 squad.

Musiala getting Messi liken on social media.

I'm pretty angry the ones who decided Bella-Kotchap wasn't worth signing for Dortmund.
