well I knew this will happen, the scoring was going to be low do to MVT's ponderously slow, build up tactics. Now the Dutch can just park the bus to win the tournament.
Thought the midfield of Marozsan, Dabritz & Lohmann was particularly inefective as they couldn't penetrate Belgium's defense since they had all the time in the world to set.
Well at least Anyomi got capped before she got poached by claiming she's got distant 3rd cousin from another country, lol. But even her speed will get nullified if MVT doesn't want to fast break

I hope Oberdorf plays midfield today?

    Nope...

1-1 at half time. Germany equalizing late, vd Gragt went AWOL and left Freigang wide open to score.
Thought Netherlands controlled most of the half, Germany bringing the pressure in the last ten minutes again (and equalizing).

I haven`t seen Germany`s defence in such problems since the times when Steffi Jones was the coach. Netherlands could have been 2:0 or 3:0 up before Germany got better at the end of the first half.

Traditionally the Dutch (men as well/more so) have trouble motivating themselves for friendlies and qualifiers. It takes rivalries like these or matches with something at stake to up their game

can't watch the game but the score line reflects badly for Germany, especially when the US had such an easy win vs Holland last November. Guessing MVT is using the same slow moving, build up style while sending the FB's way too far up, which renders them pretty useless on defense against quick counters. This predictability been sadly used from Neid, Jones & now MVT. And it's shows that unless Germany changes its ways(tactics) it will not be able to compete with the top dogs anymore

It's also another black eye for the Bundesliga as the Austrians got destroyed, 6-1, by the Swedes these days. You know the Austrians, where most everyone plays in the Bundi like Billa, by far the league's current top scorer, yet she like the others looked hopelessly slow as turtles vs the high flying Swedes.

unless they fire MVT, not sure if I'll go batfink on ya &don't support the team anymore

The Netherlands controlled much of the game, so it wasn't even necessarily that Germany were caught out on the counter; although that did happen for the second goal.

Germany really missed Melanie Leupolz this game, she would have just solidified that midfield and allowed Maro to create in the attack as she's so great at doing. Germany experimented with that thing again of playing Maro far too deep, which you'd think MVT would learn by now that that isn't working. And predictably Maro had a poor game, imo, mostly because of her positioning.

What really killed Germany today was all the missed chances they had, Popp missed a great chance early but also Schüller and Bühl missed easy goals later on.

Before you judge the game watch the second half.;) Germany created many chances and was the clearly better team. Overall a draw would have been a fair result.

I haven`t seen much of Netherlands control in the second half and Germany wouldn`t have needed Leupolz if MVT hadn`t waited until 10 minutes before the end until she brought on Lohmann.

I disagree, Netherlands completely controlled the entire first half, and the first 25 minutes of the second half. Outside of a few counter attacks from Germany they were getting no purchase. The final 20 minutes Germany started turning up the heat, after DvD was subbed and the Dutch started to become tired. Sydney did change the game but as you said it was too late, but I stand by the fact that Leupolz was really missed in this game.

Even though I'm American, I'm also a huge Germany fan and have been for a while. So, I wouldn't be as critical if I didn't care because I do, but we have to be honest with ourselves in the assessment and this wasn't a great German performance today. A lot of missed chances and the German midfield was completely outplayed today but that's just my take on it.

I haven't watched the game, but I can only imagine what a mess it was... just reading for these comments, it sounds like Germany are exactly where they've been for the past years, never improving

Germany have an incredible pool of midfielders to choose from though. Leupolz has been incredible ever since joining Chelsea, while Lohmann and Oberdorf are Bundesliga's best midfielders. Then you have the likes of Marozsan, Magull, etc. in a more offensive role

Though, what do you guys think of Däbritz in midfield? I mean she's a good player but I don't feel like she does much in the midfield at all. She was more of an attacking player in her youth

For me Däbritz was the best German at the 2019 WC, but besides moving to PSG she of course also had a major injury. Today she wasn't very effective in any case, no idea how much playing time she get's in Paris these days.

    here's the full game

Dabritz did quite good for PSG in their upset win over Lyon last fal,. but lagging in goals this season with only 1 goals, 4 assists. Just don't get that if MVT insists being so obsessive, possession minded, why didn't she stack the lineup with the similar styled Bayern Munich players(Lohmann, Dallmann, Schuller, Buhl)? Wll she did late on but it was a little too late
Oberdorf looked pretty bad on defense with Miedema getting the best of her in quite a few occasions, but then this is what you get in MVT's & Jorgie Low's outdated, crappy 'total-futebol version,
Once again the words of that Icelandic coach come to haunt(after he beat GER in 2017 WC qualifiers); "all Germans play the same"...and that's what sadly MVT doing to the team. Nobody particularly played well, allthough finally Buhl took the initiative & tried to make something happen towards th end of the game. She still seemed a step below Miedema & Martens, but at age 20, still got room to grow
Leopolz benefits in Chelsea cuz they play direct style soccer.. Unfortunately MVT's is falling behind the rest of the world with her slow poke version of waiting to bring up FB's & even CB's into the attack was in full display as the Dutch countered swiftly with only an skeleton defense to stop them.

Germany could have an bright future, they got an emerging 19-23 age group, full of more physical & athletic types like Kumbiegel, Anymoni & the recently discovered Brand to go along with technical ones like Lohmann, Buhl & Oberdorf, But to use then to their advantage, they really need to pick up the pace & switch to a way faster version. And then of course, use real CB's as defenders instead of makeshift ones like Oberdorf & Lattwein(who play midfield for their club teams)

I would say they were roughly even. Both had good chances. Both even in pace and physicality.

That was not an "even" game. The Netherlands was easily the better team in the first 65/70 minutes. The controlled play and had the better chances during that long stretch. Germany's best chance came very early and I don't remember many opportunities for them after that until far later in the game. Germany's best two chances in the 2nd half were the result of terrible giveaways by the Dutch back four--not anything Germany created. And, yea, Germany could have tied the match on either of them--especially the second one, which was fluffed. And Germany had a couple of other opportunities in the last 20 minutes as well. It was a good, interesting match, but on the whole the Dutch were better. Not by a huge margin, to be sure, but better.

even though I feel Germany is the stronger team if only coached better, I do agree with you on this one; it was MVT's predictable game plan vs Wiegman's unpredicability,as the Dutch really only needed to tie to win the tourney but came out with an win instead. So yeah, I really felt that the Dutch were going to play much of the game like they did basically in the 2nd half; stay back & counter when GER exposes itself. Instead to my surprise, Holland hit right from the onset, shooting on all cylinders while never letting quite GER establish it's possession game. Of course the players couldnt keep going on 5th gear for very long & you could see them sputtering towards the end of the 1st half, thus letting GER get back into the game.
I can see where they lowered their pace a notch or two in the 2nd half, especially with the 1-1 score line giving them the tourney championship plus Wiegman's hesitation to sub more regularity. But I really kinda wanted Germany to win to show their indeed that they can be contenders to throne so dominent held currently by the US & less we forgot, twice now Wiegman basically gave up vs the US, even Martens seems like a different playervs the US where she was too scarred to take the defenders 1v1(yet we saw a quite different Lieke in these two matches)

btw....you know you cann all of PSV EIndhoven's home games via stream or replay

it's quite an interesting team featuring the usual 2 CB"s & GK starters for Holland, The Erie league's leading scorer in Smits & then a pretty nifty FB in Levels = she had a good ame vs Barca, stealing the ball several times from Caro Hansen & turning one of them into an spectacular assist. But here's the catch; she is sooo short, doubt if she could able to handle defending in the open field(Caro had almost no space to work with). Dunno why Holland got some of the shortest players I've ever seen, lol
