http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sports/6868627.htm http://www.startribune.com/stories/384/4120598.html These are the only obits I can find, but it was scrolled across the bottom of ESPN news as I was eating lunch. Paper Lion is my favorite book about the NFL, though he had a lot of help with Alex Karras and John Gordy. Interestingly, the only obits so far are in the sports pages. However, The Paris Review is a pretty solid literary magazine, for the interviews alone if nothing else: http://www.npr.org/display_pages/features/feature_1406696.html Nor, of course, should we forget his guest appearance on The Simpsons.
I don't know if it's sad or wonderful but that's the first thing I thought of when I heard the news, Lisa's dream with the Seven Sisters colleges "and a hot plate". RIP. The greatest writer to ever quarterback the Detroit Lions.
Re: Re: George Plimpton passes away And some Lion fans would say, probably not the worst to take a snap from center. Read in one of his obits today (the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette had two, one in the sports section, one on the front page) that he was at work on his memoirs. Didn't sound like he was within striking distance of finishing, which is a real bummer, since I would bet that his memoirs would be pretty damn interesting.
I bought a copy of the Curious Case of Sidd Finch from a library sale for about 50 cents. I enjoyed it, it was a good read. Dont know much about his literary career with the Paris Review but he seemed like an interesting person to be around.
