Dave Gillett was a teammate of John Rowlands in England with Crewe Alexandra and came over to America with John to join the Sounders. Gillett was a good central defender, but, sadly broke his leg the first game of the 1978 season and never played a first team game for the Sounders again.
He was a popular Sounder in the day, anchoring the back line with the better known Mike England. I remember when Gillett broke his leg, wondering when he would return to action, but, even though he remained on the roster until 1980, he never was able to fully recover.
No I never attended a soccer camp. Learned how to play the game by my uncles , playing with and against foreign players. Also by watching great NASL players....
Including this goal (of which my father, one of my uncles and I were witness to there, as was apparently a young Brandi Chastain in her Quakettes days)? GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
