So what I gather from the preview guessing from you guys is that this new guy Heitz is very good and finding young talent but is going to likely have a hard time with the MLS kind of rules. Is this the accurate prediction of y'all? That being said...I think it could be worse and am glad this phase is over and maybe some real shit can happen soon like...coach and roster.
If you are trying to find young *talent in the MLS you are going to have a hard time. *actual talent, not potential... or what qualified in the MLS as talent
Well, we have three international slots availible. That was very much an issue last year. Is Edwards ever gonna get a green card?
Nelson who allegedly knows all the ins and outs of MLS rules did ******** all. I wouldn't worry about him "mastering" the rules or not. As long as he understands them it's fine.
And it's not like former MLS players are all that knowledgeable about the overcomplicated roster setups either when they first enter the management side of things. Guys like Chris Henderson had to learn those ropes too.
I find it hard to believe that this sonofabitch has not made a SINGLE personnel move yet. What they hell is waiting for, a Christmas miracle? Sheesh.
For the record (and snark aside), I like this hire. They hired someone relatively young, but experienced and someone who is not completely foreign to MLS. I am, of course, skeptical, but I am optimistic about the hire. “I’m honored to join Chicago Fire FC,” said Heitz. “I made the decision to join the Club after many inspiring discussions with Joe Mansueto and Nelson Rodríguez.” I wonder if Nelson Rodriguez can be "inspiring." I haven't see that. “I believe in the vision of this Club. I am very much looking forward to living in Chicago and I can’t wait to get started.” Please let us know that "vision," Herr Heitz, as we certainly cannot figure it out. https://www.chicagofirefc.com/post/2019/12/20/chicago-fire-fc-names-georg-heitz-sporting-director
A newly acquired rich guy funding the team telling him "build and spend as you please". God knows that's what I'd want in my job too.
I absolutely love how he talks about owning possession. Those here who are also on Reddit probably know how often I've said, "if you have the ball, the other team can't score." Pauno talked a good game, but he never truly encouraged such a style of play. I really hope Heitz can get a guy to give us that kind of style.
But having the ball means you're more likely to make mistakes. I'm just being contradictory here. I like counter-attacking teams.
Congratulations! I haven't had the pleasure either and I was SO GLEEFUL when I hopped on here and saw it had been taken care of already. TCB baby! Well done! If you are the guy charged with the task of signing players, having an owner who gives you a blank check IS a vision! I haven't seen this quote. Do you have a link? I hope they play possession style. A team that controls the ball usually wins. I thought Basti single handedly changed the kick and run 2017 Fire to a Possession based club and those paying attention would agree with me. You really need guys who are cool on the ball and have to get all 11 dudes to buy into making the simple easy pass. See my tag at the bottom regarding the Shankly quote. As a player who had coaches who wanted both I can say I absolutely DETESTED playing on counter attacking teams. You just run and chase then boot it upfield hoping for a goal and 95% of the time are right back to defending. Having control of the ball even if it's meaningless passing around the back line makes a game much more enjoyable not only as a player but as a fan IMHO.
that's bad high school counterattacking. Or 1970s English everything. Orghanized defending with fluid, incisive counter attacking, is as beautiful to me as any tiki taka out there. Ideally, you can do both as the need arises.
