You must not know who IntheNet is. So you are forgiven.

Awesome news! Finally a major state overcomes bigotry and hate. Hopefully all 50 will have this moment soon and we can move on.

Ive yet to hear an argument as to how gay marriage affects anyone except those now able to marry. All I hear is stupid things like 'marrying dogs' and 'Jesus wept' neither of which is sensible in any way.

It would be better if they abolished government involvement in marriage all together and just had civil unions for any consenting adults, but I suppose this is the next best thing so good for them.

Will you also be giving Clinton his equal time in the barrel for signing DOMA or are you just playing partisan hack on what should be a day of celebration?

It was meant to be humorous, mate. If there were a one-phrase ditty that we could use to mock W, Clinton, HW, Reagan, etc., apiece on the issue, then I would. I read your post and I thought of the Daily Show sketch where John Oliver says to McCain, "It gets worse." Couldn't post just that part (Hulu won't let me), so I went with the other joke.

Congratulations to my state, New York!!!

    Exactly.

The Catholic League in NY used to throw around the old "gay predators" and "child molesters" crap -- until it turned out that the church itself contained the active experts in those fields.

    The latest is this nonsense...

Archbishop Dolan on Same-Sex 'Marriage' Vote - National Catholic Register

"I worry too about government intrusion. On my blog I said this seems to have a lot of traction in places like North Korea and Cuba and China. They’re used to government butting in and telling you, “We’ll tell you what your values are. We’ll tell you what marriage is. We’ll tell you what family is. We’ll tell you what human life is. We’ll tell you what a home means. We’ll tell you where you can live. We’ll tell you where you can work." That’s antithetical to everything the American project stands for. And yet that’s what we’ve got: the government now butting into the most intimate, sacred defined principles of human existence."

Isnt that exactly what they are asking Govt to do?

The comment by Archbishop Dolan is shameful.

Who cares what the government says is ok or not ok? As long as this bill isn't threatening priests at the point of a gun to conduct marriage ceremonies they don't want to (and it's my understanding that's not the case in NY nor any other state that has government sanctioned gay marriage), then why should the Catholic Church worry?

If homosexual conduct was anathema in the eyes of God yesterday morning, I presume it still is now. The Church can still teach its position to the faithful and anyone else that wants to listen.

It almost sounds as if the Archbishop believes that government, not the organization that he holds a leadership position in, is the arbiter of his morality.

Allowing gay marriage in no way infringes on the rights of his flock. There should be no worries here.

If anything, it's a teachable moment during the homily that what government does is irrelevant to what is right and wrong in the eyes of God. That's the only facet that should matter.

Cuomo did a magnificent job on this - he capitalized on the rare situation when taking a moral stand aligned with purely politically benefits; this could pay off for him in the future.

Let's get him through his first term without doing blow or a hooker before we start lauding the governor of New York and prepping for future political office.
