You know, I have never been too fond of the name either so I understand what he is saying here, however, we have been the Galaxy for 10 years. To change the name now would be like negating part of our history. At least thats what I think.
Why not just go all the way? Harchester Utd. FC. 'Cept without the effeminate purple kits. I mean, as long as we want to make an EPL "everyteam", let's do it right.
That's an interesting suggestion, though I can't help but point out that this would be detrimental to the team finding its own identity. I don't really think that carrying the namesake of a basketball team transplanted from Minneapolis would garner the club any less criticism with regards to their brand. People are/were reluctant enough to support their brand as it is with its vague reference to the "stars" that reside in the area. How much more alienated would they be if the club were to take on a name making reference to the Great Lakes? With respect to Galaxy supporters, this is purely opinion, and feel free to wholeheartedly disagree.
LA asthma athletic? Compton Drivebye's? So Cal FC X2, Nor Cal FC X0 (kinda long though) Also as much as the Lakers dont translate neither do the Dodgers. And leave it up to Disney to name a team after water fowl.
Actually, AEG owns 49% of the Lakers with an agreement to buy controlling interest from Jerry Buss. But I don't think there is any interest in sharing the name. The Kings of MLS has a nice ring to it. Still no.
So if they had a more soccer sounding name like "Chivas" they would have more people show up for the games
Forget the name: you know what we really need? A single table. And get rid of the playoffs. Holy crap, if we're having threads like this, it's really time for the season to start.
Don't forget promotion/relegation. I mean, we're not a truly successful league if we don't have that and we must fight for it.
Tears of laughter . . . Yeah, the name of the team was the reason the HDC wasn't built to fit 35k to 40k fans. And even better you said "soccer sounding name", if you are serious about being politically correct don't you mean "football" .
It was suggested ages ago, but "The Carson Killas" is it. Los Angeles Diamonds Los Angeles Saints Or, whoever suggested Los Angeles Smog FC.
No, you were clear. Look at the following quote: So once again, I pose the question: if Galacticos is good enough for Real Madrid, how is that much different than Galaxy for LA?? And another thing, "FC" is not a brand. Nicknaming is a brand. Being an FC (when you're really not) and not having a nickname to go with it is even more hokey and meaningless than having the name 'Galaxy'.
The name Galaxy when compared to other names from clubs of all over the world, its not such a bad name and its original. Here is a list from names that I think are horrible; Ajax (reminds me of the soap cleaner) Holland Boca Jrs (Mouth Juniors if translated in english) Argentina Racing (sounds like nascar) Argentina Alajuelense ( What is that?) Costa Rica The Strongest (Sounds like a movie) Bolivia Reggina ( Sounds like a sprung guy that dont know how to let go) Italy Wigan (Wiggle it just a little bit) England Chelsea (long live Chelsea Clinton) England Nice (Its the NICE team of France) France AS Nancy Lorraine (LOL) France Cologne (I like cool water) Germany Real Salt Lake (Damn what a Bite) DC United (A bite from Man U) So you see people the name Galaxy is not so bad when compared to the world. As a matter of fact Galaxy already sounds like A superclub.
Wigan is the town that the team is from the actual team name is Wigan Athletic Football Club. Latics is the team nickname.
Man, start the ignorant post of the year tally now. Ever think that the problem isn't the name of those clubs, but that you know nothing about their names?
I liked the LA Aztecs. But the Galaxy is just fine. The Burn changed their name because the name sucked even worse than the team itself, and the My Little Pony didn't help either. And if "F*C* Dallas" is original, that's news to me.
