From the replays it looked like a sure penalty to me. The only argument was that he started the blatant foul outside the box, but randolph got burned trying to shepherd the ball out, then grabbed ahold of mullans shorts with one hand and his shirt with the other then rode him into the ground by the time they got in the box.
There was no question in my mind, Mullan was fouled pretty hard, and he was fouled while he was in the box. But..... it could have been called back outside, which is where Randolphs blatant grab started.

By letter of the law, the foul is given where it started, and yes it was a youngsters mistake, but it wasn't a penalty. The referee should have given a free-kick and booked Randolph for a professional foul.

this game was disheartening for several points, but what gets me most is the lack of ideas we have. We had times where we maintained some decent possession, but just never really could mount a dangerous attack. Really couldn't mount much of ANY attack at all actually.....
But after we went down the second goal, it seemed like any time we got the ball, the only idea we had was to hoof it high and long and hope someone in white was there to get onto it. At least half the balls had the precision of a clearance, and even those that ended up close to one of our forwards we still weren't able to maintain any possession. It was just turning the ball back over. Did we completely give up trying to play the ball through the midfield? Did we decide we didn't have the ability to do that, gave up hope and switched to long balls?

We just look like we are completely out of tactical ideas.
I know the players love Yallop, and I don't really want to be calling for his head either, but what else do we do in this case? It seems like the coach has to carry the responsibility for the game plan, or lack thereof, and we don't look like a team that has any ideas about what to do out there.

Then I'd have to agree with you, because he started it outside the box. And he made it blatant enough to be seen.

You can also interpret it as we had one on Saturday. A player ran across me and cut across him and shadowed the ball out of play for a goal kick, the player tried to get around, but fell over in the penalty area. The small crowd went mad, and the referee booked the other player for play-acting, a little harsh maybe, but the Houston player was never going to go down outside the box, if he could win a penalty, and the referee was conned. That might be my opinion because I'm a defender but you have to look at why he didn't go down under the same pressure outside the area, and looking within the sole context of this game, a poor refereeing decision and a mistake by Joe Cannon has cost us. I have been railing against JC for his communication on crosses and corners before, he doesn't inspire any confidence in the back four at all. Last night was just the worst case.

So, I brought my daughter to the game.

We had a fun time. I think there was a soccer game or something going on, but I tried to tune that out so we could have a fun time together....I knew if I actually watched the game it would only lead to sad, morose thoughts.

Instead, my daughter and I kicked a soccer ball around and played with the Seemore puppet she got from some booth and generally had a very nice time.

As LeedsUnited said, suffering through the hard times only make the championships that much more sweet.

    Looking forward to next season.....

    Yeah, we're sucking right now.

The mental mistakes are killing us. And we have no energy to recover physically or mentally.

We're not playing like a team, we're playing like a group of individuals - individuals without an answer.

But we will get through this - fans and team alike - and happy times will return.

I'm going to watch them and cheer for them, even though without much hope. And I too look forward to next year.

Lalas passed out about 30 or so beers with Chris Albright and Jazic in tow. Some of the squad were grateful but I can tell you that from where I was standing nobody around me was too impressed. I'm fairly certain it was a poor apology for the Chivas debacle.

I was there with three of my friends from Sao Paulo and they thought it was cool that players would come down and pass out beers to the supporters until they found out Lalas was one of them (they've been here for about a month and have heard nothing but Lalas bashing from me. Bless their hearts they sang naughty songs in Portuguese at him on my account).

As for what he said and why he brought the beers I have no clue, he hung out near the bottom of 138 and I was about twelve or thirteen rows back. Again, it was ballsy of him to come down but too little too late if you ask me. Nice seeing Albright amongst us though, that guy is class and he got a scarf for his efforts.

This ref, Brian Hall, was terrible all game from the opening whistle - Glinton gets drilled twice in the back by Houston's back two (no surprise - it's how these guys play). It's a foul both times. Next two times, identical play. No foul. Gordon gets elbow in the back of the head - no foul. Hall pats him on the butt and escorts him off the pitch where he gets cleaned up and has to wait to come back in. Gordon comes back in and first chance he gets drills Houston CB in the head with an elbow. Hall calls no foul. Play has to be stopped. The list goes on and on ... Galaxy were not the better team last night, but they didn't get any help from the officiating. And needless to say, the PK call was attrocious, in the context of the horrible game that Hall was calling, sure Randolph got schooled, but when a ref's letting all sorts of stuff go, and then let's a play continue when a guy's trying to give a professional foul outside the box and take his yellow card, and then Mullan takes two steps and goes down in the absolutely least dangerous corner of the box. I can't even imagine what's going on inside this ref's head to award a PK. I couldn't believe even Hall messed up that textbook call - free kick and a yellow card 999 out of 1000 games. Guess I'll have to wait 10 more years to see a call that bad again. Glad to have it come in this meaningless game, I guess.

It was a terrible penalty decision, he got conned, and not that it will happen but it would be nice to see him come out and admit he was conned. He won't though. Consistency was none existent.

I CAN NOT BELIEVE that I missed an opportunity to yell at Lalas in person on Sunday. My seats are with LARS but I had to miss the game.

I knew I should have gone. No wonder the Riot Squad is sticking with Lalas, he's found the secret way to bribe them for their support :p

I'm tired of wasting my time watching a loosing team I'm frustrated and I'm hagin it up for this season. We need to start getting creative on the pitch and also bring a new look to this team. Get rid of 75% of the roster and bring new people in that will contribute and make this LA team exciting.

LA has no good stikers the only one that makes things happen is Landon, but not in a consistent way to win games... he cannot do it all by himself.

Anyhow very discouraged and tired of watching the Galaxy.

I wonder if this was to make up for the bad publicity about the players laughing during the Chivas game.
