    Which one is that?

As for your other comment, I wasn't making a joke, just commenting on the fact that no matter how rich an owner is, land for a soccer stadium in NYC doesn't seem to exist.

By which point MLS will still have the 15-year head start it had in 2011, just about all the good markets, the TV deals and the players and your binkie will still be trying to get a stadium built somewhere.

I mean the writer....and well Brooklyn borough pres said he would help them to get land to build a stadium but of course it will take some years, so for a while MCU Park will fit enough

There is land available for a stadium in Manhattan. Madison Garden has a lot of power thats why it was not built there. But at least for now we still have Mayor DeBlasio as our mayor. Some how he was not indicted. If he is reelected it can be built because we all know the guy can be bought that is how we got Uber and MMA here in NYC. So if someone makes a donation of 20 million you could call if for housing for the poor. Maybe a million will go towards the poor. The rest will go to who ever DeBlasio wants it to go to.then like magic a stadium will be built in Manhattan. Make it 40 million it will have a casino in it as well. Make it 60 million legal prostitution will be right next door to it. So you can have a lot of fun when you go to a game besides watching football.

I don't think that's true. If he had a Billionaire partner maybe but not on his own. To buy RBNY and RBA would be a lot.

At MCI park home of the Cosmos. For their baseball new promotion the good bad guy day. Remember happy Gilmore the bad guy was shooter Magavin. They are bringing the actor who played him for a game. See I always like the bad guy I might go just for that. Maybe the Cosmos will use their imagination for their promotions as well.

Jspech, I love your comments on Cosmos reddit in response to TICC. As if 2nd division teams ever have enough revenue, period. I don't blame any club from doing what they can to make money. If the opportunity arises to travel half way around the world for match that pays you, you go and reschedule your league match. If anything I would think the league is happy to have one of their clubs invited.

We know the Cosmos brand doesn't automatically sell tickets in NY; but it does help to provide opportunities like this. Take the money.

Plan B sounds like sell the team or fold.

Isn't it too early to tell what the Cosmos and all NASL teams will do?

What the USSF has done was a shock to those who are trying to put the league together [slowly and carefully from what I've seen compared to the past]. There still is a two week window; still a chance to re-adjust to the USSF. It's my opinion the USSF is being destructive [think jobs and not just players]. The NASL has announced 2 new teams and more interest in the future; I'm thinking something is better than nothing, why destroy it?

I would think after the initial emotions calm down the league and the owners think this through that if the USSF is adamant about denying D2 the league still might survive, [different but alive, after last year who expected they would've survived for this year?] my point is we just don't know. That would only be one more chapter in the the crazy story of D2 soccer and it's not boring.

    Yep.

Do people forget that they pulled the NASL's sanctioning before? Only to reinstate it later?

But here's the point of this (it seems): the NASL has had waiver after waiver. They've not come close to standards for size of league for years now and (if some reporting is correct), were seeking yet another waiver for league size for 2018.

At some point, USSF has to say, "Enough." Especially since they have gone out of their way over the years to avoid killing it when they could have. (The provisional league in 2010, Sunil taking the vote out of general session into executive session, waiver after waiver, provisional sanctioning in 2017 and so on.)

I'll be interested to see what Rocco's actual power is to influence this. And I'm very curious as to how he's actually "shocked" by USSF's decision. (I'm reminded of the player who, when shown a yellow card, said, "Hey, how about just a warning?" to which the referee replied, "This is called a caution. It is your warning.")

I usually see Rocco walking around the stadium greeting people. When I spoke to him in April he came up to me asking "are you having a good time"; I think he really likes the team and the people involved. I thanked him for saving the team and added, "please make this team last year another 20 years". He got a far away look in his eyes and said "there are a lot things working against us". Remember, that was in April.

Now I think that night put a lot of this in perspective. How much does Rocco's love for his team stand up to the fight necessary to preserve it?

Surprised would have been a better word in my post above, sorry about that; I have to believe the NASL owners would look at this year as a careful small step forward [compared to the past] and thought the USSF would work with them for the waivers still required. Since waivers for both leagues appears to be necessary [even if it's for a few more years] why stop the leagues from trying to get there? The point is to get there. They've both proven how difficult this is; I just can't see viable reason for the USSF to throw a wrench into the work being done [by both leagues]; maybe this just takes decades when we want it to take few years, so be it.

Great just great. I always figured they would get provisional sanctioning again in 2018 and finally get cut off in 2019 if they didn't meet the standards.

I don't this this was the pro/rel the Cosmos had in mind!

Well thought out sincere posts bnyc. We rarely see these and it does grate the nerves when posting.

I do openly wonder about NC and then Indy.

Is it possible that one, or both, have made it clear behind the scenes that they were looking to leave? Their three year bond commitment ends this year, and leaving would not penalize them moneterily, as it would have last year. Losing even one of those pillars is a huge blow at this point. Could have swayed USSF decision even with all the uncertainty already. As kenn said...all is not done yet either, but I can't see previous NYC ownership/Peterson and now Silva's actions winning any friends in the USSF....esepcially considering how many chances they have given the league. Who wants to keep dealing with folks like that?

Also, NASL would have been dead without Fath last year. With the CPL coming on line and so much uncertainty he has to make a decision.

Then of course you have the Delta's and PR.

Yes, as Rocco said, there was always going to be a lot working against them.

While hope, and positive thinking is a great thing, I am not certain that they are actually building. Still looks like they are treading water, and yes, there is so much working against them.

What bums me out, is that it actually looks like NYC has found their niche...Hofstra was always going to be a death sentence, and no matter what I hope someone picks up the torch if NASL does go south. This year has shown that they can be more than viable in that location. Maybe NYC needs an owner who is more low key, and more locally focused, instead of a dreamer looking to relive the past. An NYC team with an owner who could swallow his ego with regards to USL could wind up doing fairly well.

    Fingers crossed.

Thanks Zoidberg. Your last line hits it straight on; they can survive, Brooklyn is a viable location, D2 or D3 matters little in the short term except to egos and I would add it would be great to see the NASL pull itself up to D2 even if it takes years [somehow all soccer leagues in this country exist in a time lag] or it would also be great to play in another league.

I'm actually less concerned with who or how many teams play in a D2/3 NASL next year. I think all teams find their way to right league eventually if they survive; which is no easy task. If NC wants away then set them free. The D2 standards are reachable but you can't just make someone start a team for the sake of numbers. The club has to matter to the community. Despite all the nonsense from some Cosmos fans/officials in the past the team has a place in the NYC soccer community. Good people [Starting with Gio but going so much deeper in the organization] are doing great things. The jobs are real.
