This article shows just how little O'Brien cares about the team and the fans. All he cares about is if he can make money off the Cosmos brand. He's no better then Kemsley. The Cosmos need a legit owner that will invest in the team. Not someone who wants to make a few bucks off of apparel.

I love how he keeps saying there is zero debt, yet entire staff and players fired and there is an ongoing lawsuit for back rent not paid. Oy vey.

ok BAS sometimes makes me laugh...but this time I am convinced that Lewis is clearly on drugs:

One intriguing rumor bouncing around has new owners acquiring the (Cosmos) team. They would then have the club stay out of competitive soccer for a year and then purchase the Red Bulls to perform in MLS in 2018.
Like I said, an intriguing rumor.

Buying and merging the two clubs together is not much of a business plan. How does doing this improve revenues for NYRB? I can't see anyway it could.

Yes the RB folks would cash out, fine. So why would the new owners spend more [by buying the Cosmos too]? Where is the extra revenue that comes from buying both clubs? I don't see any.

Pure fantasy by people unwilling to concede that the Cosmos are not going to be a D1 team again any time soon. RB has no reason to invest in the Cosmos "brand", or sell their interest in RBNY. This is just a extension of the things Cosmos have been saying since before they played a game in NASL 2.0.

Well, if someone were to buy the Red Bulls, you would have to assume that a name change would follow. RB likely does not want someone else in control of their brand, and it's such a stupid thing to have a team named and branded off a foreign drink brand that you would assume a buyer would want a new name as well. Buying an established brand with some history for just a few million can be attractive instead of having to build an entirely new brand.

Very true, this is why Eastern Airlines is flying again (flying charter flights ATM). A group of airline investors decided to buy the intellectual property of Eastern Airlines since there was still some name recognition there.

Anyone remember Eastern Airlines here? The youngins' might not know what Eastern Airlines is.;)

Amazing how the rumor "Cosmos buying RBNY" still exists.

Borman wasn't their spokesman, he was their president.

The Cosmos brand always reminded me of PanAm.

In an interesting coincidence to try to compare Pan Am to the Cosmos...

The Pan Am Name was bought by another company and the airline name had two 'comebacks' from 96 - 04. The airline went out of business and the Pan Am Assets were transferred to another company. The Pan Am logo still exists on freight trains.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pan_Am_Railways.

So I guess, the New York Cosmos will become the New York Rugby Cosmos in the future.

The second People Express go-around already came and went. Possibly like the NASL. Possibly

I'd rather see PSA Airlines come back now that US Airways doesn't exist to keep them alive as a heritage livery.

I agree I like PSA's livery also, but PSA has been operating as a regional airline on the east coast out of Charlotte. They were operating as US Air Express and now operates as American Eagle (after US Airways merged with American Airlines).

I personally believe that the Cosmos name should be left to history. The thought that simply bringing back the name of a famous club that failed a couple of generations ago and hope that it would help it succeed is expecting a little too much, especially in NYC which has two MLS clubs. Looking to succeed in the future doesn't mean bringing back old names from the past that have already failed. Hopefully the ownership of the Cosmos, and the other failing clubs, will do the right thing and honour their payroll/contracts and take care of players who were injured while playing for their club.
