Fulham and Brentford would be auto-promotions any other season, but this time around the Championship has two truly impressive teams in Brom'ich and Leeds. Ream is, by far, our most consistently good player in the Championship. That he often looks like hot garbage with the NT should serve as a warning of how doing ok in that league translates to the international game.
Brentford has the same owner as the Danish Champions FC Midjylland and with no youth Academy and little money to spend they rely heavily on import of Danish players = 8 Danish players in their squad which is the same as the number of English players, besides their manager also being.Danish. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brentford_F.C.#Current_squad
Real big game coming up against West Brom on Tuesday with a lot of implications for automatic promotion thanks to West Brom's draw today. Fulham are probably still destined for the playoff because their goal difference is pretty mediocre, but a win at West Brom paired with a Brentford win v. Preston North End would put Brentford into 2nd place for the first time this season.
2nd place has had: 2019: 89 points 2018: 90 2017: 93 2016: 89 2015: 89 2014: 93 2013: 79 2012: 88 2011: 84 2010: 91 Brentford can max out at 87 points, Fulham 85, so these seasons would have gotten them auto-promoted only twice in the last decade, and not since 2013.
There is nothing nothing to back this up but I’m guessing he’s the captain of St Louis in its inaugural season in 2022
Fulham (4th) play @ West Brom (2nd) today. A Fulham victory would be nice, but of course that would be most helpful for Brentford (3rd), who would move into 2nd on GD with a win tomorrow (v Preston, 8th and stilling battling to reach the promotion playoff) should West Brom lose today. Happily, it's not as confusing as I made it sound.
I think another way to put it is that a Fulham victory today and a Brentford win tomorrow would make the race for the final auto-promotion spot look like this with two games remaining: 2. Brentford - 81 points (best GD) 3. West Brom - 81 points (2nd best GD) 4. Fulham - 79 points (distant 3rd best GD) However, if Fulham lose, then they're out of the auto-promotion hunt entirely.
Ream starts, as usual. Each team with three games to go: West Brom (2) v Fulham (4) @ Huddersfield (20) v QPR (16) Brentford (3) v Preston NE (8) @ Stoke City (17) v Barnsley (24!) Fulham (4) @ West Brom (2) v Sheffield W (14) @ Wigan (15)
Living the Ream. I have such an unnatural love of FFC, just from years of Amis, that I sure hope they pull this off.
0-0 @ 65' - unfortunately, a draw won't be that helpful. On the plus side, Neeskens is on the field for Fulham.
Winding down, ream subbed out at 89' for an offensive replacement. They could really use Scottie Parker in the midfield right now. Absolutely loved him as a player, wish we had a young CM on this team he could pass his experience on to
Ends 0-0. It may still be mathematically possible for Fulham to qualify for auto-promotion, but it's extremely unlikely now. (Brentford would have to drop points in multiple games, and West Brom would have to lose their last two games now.) So play-offs it is, I think.
Starts in a 10 am eastern match up. A win would bring Fulham to within 2 points of automatic promotion heading into the last match day although they would need to pass two teams. A wild finish and a 5-3 win. Fulham are somehow still alive in the auto-promotion race heading into the final matchday. 2. West Brom - 82 points (+32 GD) ----------------------------------------------{Auto Promotion} 3. Brentford - 81 points (+43 GD) 4. Fulham - 80 points (+16 GD) Need: 1) Fulham to win; 2) West Brom to lose; and 3) Brentford not to win. Unlikely, but not impossible. The fixtures for the final matchday are: Wigan - Fulham Brentford - Barnsley West Brom - QPR Midtable QPR won't really have anything to play for here. Last place Barnsley may (depending on if they can get a result tomorrow), and midtable Wigan definitely do, since they're still in a relegation battle due to their impending 12 point deduction.
Fulham win 5-3. It looks like this one transformed in the second half from a comfortable win to complete chaos.
Starts. 1-1 in the 60th: 🚨 𝗫𝗜 🚨@ThomasCairney, @joebryan and Denis come in for our three changes!#WIGFUL pic.twitter.com/nIDESY3ZnY— Fulham Football Club (@FulhamFC) July 22, 2020
Ream played 90 minutes and Fulham ended up drawing 1-1. West Brom was able to get a point today, so a win would not have been enough for Fulham to win promotion automatically. Fulham will play Cardiff in the Promotion Playoff.
First leg in Wales on July 27, second in London on July 30, and the final is set for Wembley on August 4.
