I wondered if they were just protecting themselves too by getting into the portal before May 1. For those that do not know, you have to be in the portal by May 1 to be allowed to transfer and play this coming fall.
Mark possibly going to Florida with now 9 FSU players in the portal since 4/22 is certainly interesting. Someone on the HotSeat suggested the UF timing letting Amato go was purposeful. We'll see I guess... Anyone ever seen the nearby club make the coach a deal so he brings the whole team with him??? Happens ALL the time in youth sports and now pretty easy to do in college...
I think pretty unlikely it happens for a few reasons. But I'll feel better when Mark announces another landing spot or UF fills the position otherwise.
The good news is that Jenna, Lauren and Cristina have apparently pulled their names from the portal so it doesn't look like the team will completely disintegrate.
Really disappointing. Would have been interested to see her up top with Beata and Jody, potentially plugging one of the gaps on the team. Sigh.
College Soccer Nation podcast says none of the FSU assistants are sticking around for the fall. Pensky will need to build a staff.

It looks like the plan is for Onyi to step into the spot Olivia Smith would have had if she had stayed.
It looks like Emily Madril has chosen to go pro. I also do not see Pavlisko on the roster. https://seminoles.com/sports/soccer/roster/season/2022-23/
Except she's only using 1year of money, maybe only 1 semester! I see 21 players. I like that. Not sure the ACC travel rules but that likely means everyone travels and of course, plenty of room for new AND portal kids if Pensky can do well enough to keep it an attractive option....and smile now and then Wonder how soon you'll start to hear: "Hey, we don't have to travel across the country for conference games"
We'll see on Onyi. She has two years of eligibility remaining. If Pavlisko and Madril are truly gone they would be a major losses.
We will be lucky to finish 3rd in the ACC with all the losses. We'll let it play out and see what Pensky brings to the table.
I believe that Pensky has significant potential at FSU. He had real success at Maryland recruiting excellent talent. ...and at the top echelons, recruiting well is most of the equation for success. The reputation of FSU will help him even more.
I wish him well, but historically Maryland and FSU are not recruiting in the same talent pool often. Pensky needs to consistently win recruiting battles for the top US born players with the traditional powerhouses and/or continue to cultivate a great international pipeline of players capable of competing at that level. MK was very open about why he developed his international networks. The game may be changing. Moving towards younger players taking a professional development pathway. One a dones may become a thing.
