Powers signed a contract extension in October: http://www.coloradorapids.com/news/2014/10/midfielder-dillon-powers-signs-contract-extension-rapids
Brown had a GA deal, Powers I recall was a Senior deal (no Salary leverage) so on the low side salary wise, it would make since to re do deal for a guy who just won the ROY.
Seems inevitable. One of many from yesterday and today. http://www.tv2.no/a/6690425 "24-year-old, who previously played for including the American MLS club Colorado Rapids, shall be agreed with the club about a deal and the only thing that remains is the player's signature."
This just seems like another example of right idea, sh*t execution. I have no problem with selling a young prospect for a profit, but the cupboard is bare at the forward position, and selling Brown with no immediate replacement is just ridiculous. And you know what? Even if we added Doyle tomorrow, we are still paper thin up top. My guess is that no depth at forward is going to the demise of the 2015 season like no depth on the back line was the demise of the 2014 season.
MLS.com is reporting the potential now (http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...eshorn-brown-sought-norwegian-powerhouse-val?). They are not saying it's done, but I would be surprised if they would report it on the main MLS website without at least being close. I am sorry to see him go, but feel like a new start may be good for him. Plus, buying low and selling high is an OK thing for us to do (assuming we sell high). rod.
You clearly are not familiar with the schizophrenic nature of MLSsoccer.com. They want to be both the leagues official news site and the "hot stove league rumors" site. So I wouldn't put a whole lot of weight in it showing up on the site. That said, yeah, I think this is all but a done.
Like I said, way less than Doyle's yearly salary........a giveaway financially. Bad move, sorry. The league knows Powers thru to Brown requires some real attention, hence room for Sanchez/Serna or whomever.... Sigh. I admit I really like speed. R
Some people seem to put a lot more stock in Brown than I do. I see I guy that is very fast, average ball skill, and below average shooting. I see a guy that, frankly, has grown very little skill-wise as a player over the last two seasons in spite of receiving significant minutes. I was also extremely disappointed with his play in the preseason. Moreover, his skill set does not fit the needs of our roster. If were playing with a single forward up top, we need a forward that can fight off defenders, play with his back to the goal, and put the ball on frame more than 10% of the time. He additionally lacks the skill set to be dropped into the winger role, where we have 3-4 superior options. This is a good move for Brown and the Rapids. Brown could improve with a change of scenery and he's guaranteed more playing time in a different system that can make more use of his skill set.
I get everything you said Quinn and do not really disagree. It's a hard choice. But.................... Ten goal seasons all time for Colorado I have watched them all........ Connor Casey-3 in a row (most in three years by mile) Deshorn Brown -2 in a row Omar-1 Spencer -2 over 3 years Omar-1 Chung-1 Henderson-1 Aogogo-1 JDV-1 Wolde-1 Paule-1 Bravo-1 Harbor-1 Um, I wanter to keep Casey as the big lug with a fast accomplice, Omar or Brown/Badji would do, too...remember that combo worked well in 2010. R
I also agree with Quinn, but you have to wonder what a little better coaching might of done for his "skill" improvement (mostly shooting wise to me). Why no one has ever taught him to drag and round a GK over shooting at him, I will never understand. I might be the only one who also sees selling Powers to also be good for both him and the Rapids.
Yes, 2002-2003 Chung was there too.......I wish my near vision was better. So Casey by far #1, then Brown and Chung #2? Good company. 10 goals twice is *not* a failure. Ponder that failure, Rapidophiles. R
We really need a few folks with some journalistic chops to start up a site to really compete with mlssoccer.com. And don't have it be ESPN with their NY/Boston bias please.
Failure? No, not a failure. Not a screaming success either. More games, more shots... more goals. If we're gonna compare to Rapids history and declare 10 goals good enough we ought to acknowledge that many of those 10 goal seasons were achieved with fewer games, with a lot more efficiency, and with a contribution of assists. Deshorn's 33.33% goals per game is below all other 10-plus goal scorers since 2001 with the next lowest being 37.93% by Mark Chung who chipped in 6 assists and played as midfielder. His goal to shots at 8% and 10%, is well below everyone else. Again with Mark Chung being the closest with 14% and 13% even as he added a bunch of assists. sorry for the messy layout.... @rapidsnews: Deshorn Brown dealt by Rapids to Norwegian club Vålerenga http://t.co/qVgEecGq0e #rapids96
http://www.espnfc.com/story/2352585...wn-headed-to-norways-valerenga-in-tippeligaen Brown has weighed in on the pending transfer: He also mentions his goal scoring ratio and his need for improvement:
Official now, though the Rapids are calling it a trade, which is...odd http://www.coloradorapids.com/news/2015/03/colorado-rapids-trade-deshorn-brown-valerenga
I don't know... anyone who sees this as a good move seems to be indirectly arguing that 2 forwards (one that's an unproven 4th round draft pick and the other who the head coach wants to use as a CAM) plus a bit of money in our pocket is better for the team than 3 forwards (the aforementioned two forwards plus another who, while frustrating as hell sometimes, is still an above average MLS forward). I just can't agree with that. The money is nice, but money alone can't score goals for this team. You have to be able to use the money to bring in a replacement that is hopefully an improvement over (or at least a better fit for our current system than) Brown. But I have very little confidence in our FO's ability to do that. I'm skeptical that Doyle will be an improvement over Brown, and I'm also skeptical that the FO will actually be able to deliver on Doyle. Ultimately, my main issue isn't really with the sale of Brown (I understand that there are positives to the move). It's more that the FO constructed a roster that was so ill equipped to take advantage of the opportunity to sell Brown without also severely damaging our chances of success this year.
Hmmm definitely odd usage of the word. Surprised that it made the cut after editing. Although, I would take one player from Valerenga, Zahid, I think is his name. A young 20 yr. old true #10 being sought by Valencia, Wolfsburg, Lille, and a few Serie A teams.
This. According to the DP article, Brown was shopping himself for the last 7 months. One would think a FO worth it's salt would take full advantage of that lead time to sign a couple of replacements - not just draft one.
