That would be funny if the team unveiled that thing without Garber knowing in advance putting him in a position where he couldn't say no in front of the crowd
I am under the impression my mother's family who are Yorks named the city New York. We go back to the 1600's baby.
Those fans are not necessarily being poseurs-- it's just the fact that being in the first division makes you be on a lot of people's radar. This is a market reality that I wish the NY Cosmos had learned before making the mistake they did of joining NASL. In the NYC metro market you can win Div II 200 times in a row and no one's going to care. Of course, there are always Div II stalwarts-- but those are the diehards, and unfortunately that market is too small to make a difference. Atlanta is being smart by trying to reach out to the market and making themselves bigger than they used to be.
I don't care what the attendance was. Do you know why? They aren't in MLS. Good for you if you love the Silverbacks. I don't.
Just goes to show why people think Atlanta is a poor sports town. It's sad and maybe one day the impression will change.
What was the attendance at Toronto Lynx games before TFC showed up? What was the attendance at Sounders games before the MLS jump? Same with Orlando and Portland?
Portland drew over 10,000 per game in their last minor league season. Orlando was over 5,000, and Seattle over 4,000. Toronto's attendance was just under 3,000 when the unrelated MLS team was announced. Portland is an outlier when it comes to minor league attendance.
Exactly my point. Even Portland, which is an outlier, more than doubled their annual attendance after making the jump. And they would have far more than doubled if they had a larger stadium. Using Baked Alaska's logic, virtually all of the fans in MLS are posers.
(I really thought that I was gonna get the chance to use this more when I made it a couple of years ago.)
