on a serious note, once again this is why KP is a genius! get rid of adu whos leaving anyway and pick up a major allocation, and still get money down the road.

Wow. Depending on how this works out with the allocation(s), this could be a fantastic trade all around.

DC significantly limits their money spent on the goalie position. If Perkins is going to be the starter, no need paying Nick's salary as a reserve. I've always liked Nolly and he'll do well in the backup role here.

Nick gets a very good chance to get regular time in the nets in Salt Lake.

DC dumps Freddy's attitude and still keeps the rights to allocation money for his transfer. This is the kicker. The marketing hit will certainly hurt the team some, but it was clear that Adu and Nowak weren't always on the same page and while he was very good sometimes, there were times when he was very pedestrian here as well.

Freddy gets reunited with Ellinger. This should only help his comfort level and hopefully he continues to improve.

DC gets more allocation money to spend on various South Americans immediately.

Again, the big part of this deal is how the players who DC United acquires pan out, but this is certainly a good start.

Wow. Actually I think this is a great move for DC. It looks as if Freddy was a bust at his trial with Man U. Rather than take him back and have increasing bouts of problems with playing time and role over the next year or two, the DC FO decided to cut him loose.

The way things are shaping up, I think you are going to see more changes with MLS rosters this year than in any year in MLS history save the first year. There have been suggestions coming out of South American that DC identified a couple of really strong players they are iching to sign. I see this as only adding fuel to the fire.

I don't think there will be a marketing hit in DC. The team was the focus of ads I saw, if anybody was put in the front it was Gomez. He might be the most famous name, but only among those who don't follow the team anyhow.
