He said the 8 v 8 tournament is very competitive. Even the former pros have a tough time because the players are very skilled.

Once Friedkin comes in, Totti needs an important role in this club to win back fans..and get us back on track.

I’m not sure I trust Totti to be a good in anything other than a symbolic role. At least for now.

He is too used to being treated like a demi god to be able to take criticism and learn on the job.

I agree. You always wonder what a training player coach or a good for the dressing room coach brings to a team.

I don't think they really do anything in the end other than being symbols for other players to look up to. I mean a coach picks and decides which players he will utilize and subs in whichever players he wants to use but the other guys don't add all that much. He may even be a distraction.

If Pirlo can coach, couldn't Totti do it just as well? Or like Baggio, he just doesn't want to?

Juve can buy Pirlo a team he can just throw on the field and compete, Roma cannot.

Yeah but can't Totti coach anyone else? I mean we know he is all Roma but coaching is different and I'm sure he can add his experience just like Pirlo can. Probably even more.

Being a great player doesn't always translate into being a great coach. Besides, JP did the hard part and separated the club from Totti and De Rossi, let's not open that can of worms and let them back with positions of authority.

I see Totti being frustrated by everyone’s first touch or passing, don’t see him as a good team coach or manager.

Pirlo will be fired by November.

Totti can barley speak proper Italian and you think he can coach?

I definitely think they could add to the game but I rarely see superstars transition into great coaches. Cruyff was one and I think Zidane was given a token job but I can’t think of too many who made it as coaches. I think it takes a special breed and the stars hate it when others can’t do what they did. I don’t think Maradona ever did much as a coach.

For once you say something I agree with. Stay the hell away from Totti.

A former (American) football coach once claimed bench warmers made better coaches. His reasoning was that when you spend most of your time on the bench you get to see what goes into game time decisions and discussions between coaches. You learned a lot of the minor details that go into coaching that you would never see being on the field all the time.

There is something to the logic. There is much more to coaching than X's and O's (I don't care what sport it is). It's those million small details beyond tactics that make coaches.

Former star players also don’t like the constant coaching changes. You rarely see a coach last more than 5 years.

DiBiaggio , Montella and Siniša Mihajlović have been making the rounds at quite few clubs recently. That didn’t happen when they were playing.

Also, players train 2-3 hours a day , coaches are working 24 hours and constantly thinking about lineups , tactics and game plans or watching films. One former coach told me once , you have to make sure each players is taped properly, check their boots, find out about each player persona and be a mother hen.

Some of those things are different at the Serie A level but you still have to be up on every aspect of the team.

Still think he knows more than Pirlo but I’m betting Totti would make a better GM or scout as opposed to coach...
