Ole on 'fiery' Fernandes. https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...y-bruno-fernandes-similar-player-paul-scholes Love his on the pitch attributes, but seeing some of his comments and what is said about his mentality, really excited about that as well. Need a headstrong guy in the team, who will tell it like it is when needs be.
Absolutely... Bruno Fernandes: “Compared to Rui Costa? There is a big difference with Costa, he had a really great career. I want to be better, it’s difficult but it’s my dream to be better every day and I hope #mufc fans can enjoy my game.” #mulive [mu]— utdreport (@utdreport) January 31, 2020
There are a lot of goal/assist youtube vids, but often think a prem keeper would save that or prem defence would defend better. What impresses me most about him is his passing, especially speed, range and weight. That should translate anywhere.
Everyone will. Going to be even more of a track meet than before. Seems like every pass he's able to play, he can play first time.
Don't be fooled: that is Tony's excited face. "Hello Bruno, welcome to Manchester United. I'm looking forward to working with you!"🇫🇷 @AnthonyMartial 🤝 @B_Fernandes8 🇵🇹#MUFC pic.twitter.com/0gNH2zicIj— Manchester United (@ManUtd) February 1, 2020
you can see something is clearly there but you can just as easily see how it will be wasted if we don't surround him with the correct pieces
My worry is it goes the Di Maria way, he was exciting to watch for his first few matches....then Van Gaal's system killed him.
Bruno can't fix things on his own. https://www.skysports.com/football/...st-wolves-but-man-utd-still-lack-cutting-edge His debut showed serious promise and hopefully we'll see some players returning very soon. Really looking forward to what our midfield can be like with McTominay and Pogba back into the mix.
The good thing is that you can see Bruno knows what people are meant to be doing. If we sign three or four more leaders then maybe we could do a Chelsea and make the backroom staff mostly irrelevant? (No, right now they aren't irrelevant, they're a hindrance.)
You can see Bruno trying to guide and getting ignored by some of the players (Lingard, Pereira, Shaw). Some of the lads look too comfortable in their positions. Happy for the paycheck and don’t care about winning.
The two things that stood out the most about his play were 1. Movement. Off the ball he was constantly looking for space. Meanwhile, Martial, James, Lingard, AP we’re all standing still most of the game when we had the ball. 2. Directing traffic. He was already taking the lead and trying to get players to make the right runs or move into the right space. It’s pathetic he has to do this and our coaching staff haven’t fixed this.
United could (should really) build the team around Fernandes. https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/fo...-fernandes-new-signing-x-factor-a4351291.html Shown quite a bit in his debut and can't wait to see what he's got once he becomes familiar with his teammates and surroundings. From that standpoint this coming break has come at the perfect time.
Apparently in a recent interview, Sporting's vice president said that during negotiations it became clear than United expected Sporting to cave on the price. In the end we paid what they wanted and he said they gave teams a figure of 20 mil less in the summer. So basically we paid an extra 20 mil and lost half a season from Bruno because we were late to act yet again.
Something that was always bound to happen once Fernandes signed a new contract with the club, thus giving Sporting more power in any subsequent negotiations. But this is really par for the course with Woodward: he paid at least 10-15mil more for Maguire than he would have the previous summer. And the negotiations for Wan-Bissaka dragged out unnecessarily because he thought he could wear CP down and he end up paying the sum they initially asked for. One would hope that he's learned his lesson by now, particularly ahead of this coming summer. History tells us it's not likely though.
But does it really sounds that far fetched given what we've seen from our negotiations staff the past 6 years?
