If there’s one thing Klein does, it’s hire former Galaxy players to coaching positions. And Vanney and Klein were teammates in 2008 and I believe te Kloese and Vanney overlapped at Chivas USA in 2013

    A) he knows the league and has been a huge success in it
    B) he knows how to incorporate high level DPs
    C) he is a Galaxy alum
    D) he played with all our bozos in our front office that only hire their friends

Probably the best we can hope for no?

This screams Vanney is our new manager, and honestly we can do a lot worse than Greg. I don't think Toronto fired him so I have to believe we just inquired and he was willing.

It just makes too much sense. I think Vanney realized he had done all he can do in Toronto. He's done a remarkable job there. I think he sees this as a kind of "legacy" job for him. MLS is better with the Galaxy being relevant. It's one of the standard-bearers for the league, the rivalry with LAFC bring international acclaim to the league, etc.

You think so? It could be. I have thought about him a few times but the way Toronto was so competitive and spent money I did not think it was a possibility.

Many other teams need and/or will need coaches around MLS. He can pick and choose with his record. He will have to deal with Chich and he knows it. A complete commitment to what could be a long and arduous rebuild and he knows that too. Kein sucks and he may know that. We'll see.

Coach Vanney. Has a nice ring to it. :)

    Oh yeah... FIRE KLEIN!

I mean it's fun to believe but I've seen no evidence that this is true.

Who is this Amobi guy? I hope we do get somebody quick whomever he might end up being. I want the new coach to be part of any new or existing player negotiation.

I will be surprised if Vanney isn’t announced as our new head coach. The timing, circumstances and comments about his resignation all suggest he knows where he’s going – demure comments about taking a breath aside. As successful as he’s been I don’t think he’s warranted a look from a European team and there aren’t many MLS teams that are the same caliber of Toronto and very few with head coach vacancies.

He says later he was just speculating, but everyone is speculating at this point. Feel a little bit bad for Dom...but oh well.

    Couldn't agree with @mbar 's post more.

Plus he said he specifically wants to rebuild a team. Who needs complete rebuilding more than the Galaxy?

This was from the article on the MLS website:

“I’m a builder, I like to build things," Vanney said. "I like projects.”

    Welcome home Greg!

Y’all are right he did say build, not rebuild. Worrisome. Austin has a coach, right?

That’s good for the Galaxy since Vanney won’t be going there.
I imagine you are excited Geneva. You going to be a two team fan for a while?

I think a complete rebuild is exactly what the Galaxy need. Take a look at Seattle's roster, position by position, how many of the Galaxy players would you keep in a straight up trade for their Seattle counterpart? After Araujo over Alex Roldan and Lletget over Joevin Jones, I can't argue for a single Galaxy starter based on their play in 2020. I think that you could make similar comparisons with similar but not so striking results for SKC, Portland, Dallas and LAFC in the West. That's 5 clubs with an overwhelming advantage in talent.

I don't see anyone turning that talent disadvantage around in a single year given the Galaxy's bad DP contract situation (IMO, Chicharito and JDS are in the twilight of their careers and have problems staying healthy), and questionable to terrible front office situation.

Does anyone know how Toronto played under Vanney?

I think the consensus here was that Chich needed a second forward to play with him and so the 4-2-3-1 lineup didn't suit him. If Vanney is a 4-4-2 kind of guy, then another forward is a priority and it will also affect who we keep in the midfield. If he wants a single target forward, then we go with Chich for another year and build the team that way, expecting someone better the year after.

One additional Galaxy connection if Vanney becomes coach is that Dan Calichman, a Galaxy original and captain for all three years here, who later served as a college coach at Claremont McKenna for 12 or 13 years, has been Vanney's assistant manager since 2014. I could easily seeing him returning to the Galaxy with Vanney if he isn't a candidate for a HC job at Toronto or elsewhere.

He had Jozy as his CF most of the time. I think the formation was 4-2-3-1. The question should be is he married to that formation or will his players skills dictate his formation?

ummm....errrr.... you women all look alike to me? No, that makes it worse. Wait, I got it - I'm getting senile and months of quarantine and the stress of the election made me do it! Actually most of that is true.

Soooo.... @StillKickin, are you going to be a two-team fan?

    (Sorry, @Geneva!)
