At this point I'd take Roy Keane at his old age at minimum wage.

He would certainly teach Matt Polster a thing or million about being a no-nonsense, kick ass, central defensive midfielder.

The Hawks hired Tretiak to help their goalies in the off season. Andrew's a cheapass piece of shit.

I saw in Illinois Entertainer that the 'Kean Money Players' have rented space in the Theater Building on Belmont. Apparently they are planning a run of 'Teahouse of the August Moon'.

Yes, but Basti fits the description.

Description of what? If Hauptman isn't paying for him then he doesn't fit the description.

He fits the description of what a "Keane Money" players is, a recognizable name that can bring quite a bit to the table. He may not be getting paid by Hauptman, but he's going to be brought in during the Hauptman era and everyone's going to see it as a "Hauptman era purchase".
Hopefully will be the last purchase of the Hauptman era.

If BS does sign in the summer and odds are because the league stepped in and go it done and paid for him. Then our entire roster would be paid by the league. Let's not forget the TAM/GAM paid for Accam, MDL, Juninho, Dax, Kapp and Nikolis.

Either Andi is the smartest guy on the planet or league has already taken over the team or Don is the stupidest guy on the planet.

    Yes, sir!

    Quote 1:
“Would we sign a striker at the price of Robbie Keane? The answer is yeah, of course we would,” Hauptman (above) said last week. “Would we have done that particular signing, I’m not entirely sure. … Would we [pay that price] for the right striker that fits what [head coach Frank Klopas] and the technical staff wants? Yes, of course.”

I guess it depends on the definition of "we".
If "we" are the Chicago Fire, owned and operated by Andrew Hauptman and Andell, LLC, it does not fit the description.
If "we" are any combination of league $$$$, TAM, GAM, and, perhaps, the team's money, that is different.
Of course, he did then mention "striker" but I am not quibbling about that.

We have always focused on this quote:
“What I say to them always is: ‘Bring me one. Bring me an impact player that has the qualities that are going to help you succeed,’” Hauptman said. “That’s all I can do. Then it’s up to them to come up to me and say, ‘OK, we have one.’ I’ll say, ‘Go for it.’ There’s nothing more or less complicated about it than that.”

    This is Bastan Schweinsteiger.
He is that "impact" player who has the qualities that are going to help you succeed.

If we sign Bastian Schweinsteiger, I would be thrilled. I fear he would get beat to crap by the hacking defenders in MLS, but, barring that, he would be one of the best two or three players in the league (until Zlatan arrives).
At this point, the signing of Juninho AND McCarty make little sense with Bastian, but I suspect one (or both) could be trade bait.

What was the quote from N-Rod about a Giovinco level signing?

So does this thread finally die with the alleged Bastian Schweinsteiger deal basically done?

Everyone is assuming the Schweinsteiger deal happens. Jermaine Jones was reported by credible sources as a done deal. Drogba was as well, neither happened. I dont put it past them to trade for allocation money, until he's playing in a Fire shirt I refuse to be excited about this.

Is he a Keane money player? Yes. Is he a world class player with a long list of accomplishments and a record of success? Absolutely. Does this mean that Hauptman finally fulfilled a promise? That depends. Did he invest his money? Did he pay for the player? Doesnt seem that way. You dont show commitment by using other people's money.

Drogba was never a done deal. JJ had another MLS club looking at him.
We are literally the only team in MLS doing anything about him.

New England may have been late to the party, but they did show interest.

The only reason New England became interested was because Hauptman killed the deal at the last possible second. There was no interest before then. Quit making stuff up.
