It's starting to feel closer and closer, especially with the group draw scheduled for tomorrow (11am EST, if anyone was wondering). The four pots, which will be used to decide the final groups: Pot 1 Brazil Spain Germany Argentina Colombia Uruguay Switzerland Belgium Pot 2 Algeria Cameroon Ivory Coast Ghana Nigeria Chile Ecuador Pot 3 Australia Iran Japan South Korea Costa Rica Honduras Mexico United States Pot 4* Bosnia and Herzegovina Croatia England France Greece Italy Netherlands Portugal Russia *One Pot 4 team will be drawn into Pot 2 prior to the general draw. I'm sure I'm not going to be the only one here tuning in anxiously..
Did you see the rehearsal groups? They did it today and this how it came out. GROUP A - Brazil, Italy, France, Australia. GROUP B - Uruguay, Nigeria, USA, Croatia. GROUP C - Argentina, Ghana, Costa Rica, Russia. GROUP D - Switzerland, Chile, Japan, Greece. GROUP E - Spain, Ivory Coast, South Korea, England. GROUP F - Colombia, Cameroon, Honduras, Holland. GROUP G - Germany, Ecuador, Iran, Portugal. GROUP H - Belgium, Algeria, Mexico, Bosnia.
That would give a Brazil-Argentina Quartefinal if both were to come first in their group. Basically, whomever comes first in Group C, will most likely play Brazil, as they are expected to come first in Group A. It is the 2nd round games and likely QF matchups that are really interesting.
I would be very surprised if we end up in group C, I think they will put us on the end of groups(depending if we both win) and the earliest we may meet might be the semis. I hate these gala's though, hour plus we are going to see a bunch of samba dancers, talk endlessly about each city and stadium, blah blah blah, Pele trying to sell some Subway sandwiches, just get on with it.
The anxiety is killing me. This is the draw I want for Argentina: Argentina, Cameroon, Iran, England. It would be great to beat England and then Brazil in the quarterfinals
The key to a successful World Cup campaign is to start off against tougher opponents rather than easier ones, World Cup winners Mario Kempes of Argentina and Zinedine Zidane of France both agreed on Thursday. http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/news/...nents-early-world-cup-say-192237351--sow.html
So originally, France was going to be in the pot with the Africans, yet they have changed it so it could be any of the 9 european teams not seeded... Platini pulling the strings to save his country, while Blatter has some how managed to get Switzerland to be a seeded team. Meanwhile what does Grondona do for Argentina? NOTHING! Probably get another group of death like 2002 and 2006
Finally we get an easy draw! It's karma for all those groups of deaths we always get. Ironically there are more hard groups than usual this time, but we got lucky.
