Angola was already eliminated yesterday, but they also eliminated Uganda in the process by finishing ahead on goal differential in group .

    I think the twenty are

    1 Cameroon
    2 Guinea Kenya
    3 Benin
    4 Nigeria
    5 Ghana Gabon
    6 Algeria
    7 Ivory Coast Mozambique
    8 Morocco Rwanda
    9 Burkina Faso Tunisia
    10 Mali Sudan
    11 Zambia Togo
    12 Egypt Malawi

Notable outs include Angola, Senegal, South Africa and Libya. Libya probably has the most to complain about going 4-2 in qualifying considering Mozambique is 2-2-2.

Thanks for the clarification shinzui! Libya probably does feel shafted compared to Mozambique, but the groups were determined some time ago based on FIFA rankings and previous results in other qualifying competitions. What messed up for Libya was the fact that they won over the last placed team in their group, while Mozambique split with Botswana and therefore didn't get punished as severely. If Eritrea had participated in this stage, and Ethiopia didn't get expelled, all this could have been avoided. Then again, I guess it wouldn't be African World Cup Qualification without some controversy or screw-up, would it?

I'm pretty sure what REALLY messed it up for Libya was finishing third in their group.

I think it's because the only thing that matters to choose the 8 best runner-up is goal difference. But I'm not sure :p

BTW Can someone write the pots for the draw for the next stage? If it's possible it would be appreciated.

PS Angolans are bastard :p... they eliminated Uganda without the possibility to go through

We could have a group in the final round with 3 teams that made the 2006 World Cup. Possible hardest and easiest draws:

    Hardest?

Cote d'Ivoire, Tunisia, Burkina Faso, Togo

    Easiest?

    Egypt, Zambia, Rwanda, Mozambique

Tunisia is not the hardest 2nd seed, they are probably closer to the easiest. I would want to avoid Morocco , Mali, or even Guinea over Tunisia,

Of the 20 teams to advance:

10 were #1 seeds. The only top seeds to fail were Angola and Senegal.

5 were #2 seeds: Algeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, Mozambique, and Zambia.

4 were #3 seeds: Gabon, Malawi, Rwanda, and Sudan.

    1 was a #4 seed: Kenya.

ACTUAL RANKING OF SECOND PLACE TEAMS (excludes teams from 3-team groups)

    1. Malawi
    2. Kenya
    3. Tunisia
    4. Gabon
    5. Sudan
    6. Mozambique
    -----
    7. Gambia
    8. Angola
    9. Cape Verde
    10. South Africa

So 6 in 4 out (both 3-team groups got a 2nd side in. And, assuming that if these groups had been complete and all relevant sides got a home win and away draw against the excluded side - I think this is not unrealistic - then the teams from this group still both qualify)

These same teams ranked on TOTAL group results.

    1 (3). Tunisia 13 +8
    2 (1). Malawi 12 +9
    3 (4). Gabon 12 +5
    4 (8). Angola 10 +3
    5 (2). Kenya 10 +3
    6 (7). Gambia 9 +3
    -----
    7 (5). Sudan 9 -
    8 (9). Cape Verde 9 -1
    9 (6). Mozambique 8 +2
    10 (10). South Africa 7 -

So, Angola and Gambia have effectively lost out to Sudan and Mozambique due to the change of qualification rules.

You and your dislike of Tunisia...:D

Seriously, they and Morocco are the teams I want to avoid. I don't any North African teams in our group.

As for you guys, I reckon you can handle Tunisia, I just get that feeling.

Mali I'm not scared of. Yes they have a good midfield, but we have a better one.

Burkina are definately the team to avoid in pot 3.

Thanks for the correction, JLSA. Libya tied for first in their group on points (12 for them, as well as Ghana and Gabon), but did finish third based on goal difference. Still, a tough way to go out.
