Yeah I would give it to Australia or China instead for 22 because they have infrastructure needed to host
Australia only has 3 or 4 non-cricket stadiums that hold over 40,000. I'm not sure you can effectively segregate fans in cricket stadiums.
Yes because they've spent 8 years planning for it. I'm also not sure FIFA wants stadiums with worse sight-lines than Yankee Stadium. Melbourne Cricket Ground Sydney Cricket Ground Perth Stadium China could host if you want to maintain FIFA's record on human rights violators.
But Qatar is even worse than either one of them when it comes to human rights being violated so what's your point? I would take either of those countries over Qatar because they are the lesser of two evils
That's a separate discussion but I will mention that China has a million Uighar Moslems in concentration camps.
Not sure why you picked those three. Australia / New Zealand has just been awarded the 2023 WWC and none of those venues will be used. Those 3 are cricket grounds and the first two are not ideal for football and don't host it regularly (haven't been to the Perth Stadium so wont pre judge it)
There are only 2 rectangular stadiums that hold more than 40,000 and for a World Cup you'll need 8. Perth and Docklands in Melbourne are convertible whatever that means. I'm not saying Australia can't host a World Cup but it would take a few years to bring enough stadiums up to standard.
You posted a photo of the Perth Stadium in "rectangular" mode. It's pretty inadequate and the conversion of Docklands stadium is even worse. The only decent convertible stadium is ANZ stadium in Sydney (the 2000 Olympics stadium) which is similar to the Stad de France. If you're on the bottom deck its good progressively getting you further away as you get higher up. There is definitely a shortage of modern rectangular stadia with a bit of size to them, although I get 3 counting the Sydney Football stadium which is currently being rebuilt, two in Sydney and one in Brisbane. There are a few more decent ones if you look at the 25-40K capacity. I think we would be very unlikely that we would have the capability to hold a world cup on an emergency last minute basis, especially a 48 team one. You would either need to go to a recent host or one of the major European nations.
I think an A&NZ World Cup is a great idea but if Qatar doesn't switch to Europe the next Asia slot won't be until at least 2042.
If Qatar were to switch to a European country, then you can easily shift the 2022 FIFA World Cup back to summer the way it should be
The Qatar World Cup is the first time a World Cup is not going to happen in the middle of winter for an entire hemisphere.
I know right which is why they should shift it away from Qatar and give it to either another Asian country or give it to another European country at least.
Just give it to England if they snatch it (rightfully so) from England. I'm more curious who's hosting for 2030
22 people voted on the outcome of this decision. Of those 22, 15 are now either banned from FIFA for life, suspended, imprisoned or fighting extradition to the USA to face federal charges. Only, one still actually works for FIFA. https://t.co/yoshhohEG3— Eli (@ElMengem) December 2, 2020
agreed. It would be a pain in the ass, but the right thing to do and its not too late. If it HAD to, England could take it up on two weeks notice
USA 94 is still the record holder for highest attendance and revenue. We should host the thing at least every decade.
if we didnt have one upcoming id raise our hand for it more emphatically. England has like, 47 stadiums that could qualify as more than adequate
