CAF should consider moving to a quadrennial schedule, but they should do so for their own purposes (e.g. freeing up more matchdays for WCQ instead of ACQ), not because "everybody else does it" and "Liverpool doesn't like it".
Fifa and Uefa set for bitter Club World Cup showdown that will decide the future of football Where did this come from? Is biennial the latest rumor for the expanded CWC?
I'm just surprised you shared that article and not this epic picture (basically good to become a staple BS meme over the next few years )
Fifa President Infantino proposes Africa Cup of Nations be held every four years: https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/51341058
CAF fixture pile up threatens CHAN tournament in Cameroon: http://www.insideworldfootball.com/2020/02/06/caf-fixture-pile-threatens-chan-tournament-cameroon/ In case you are wondering what the African Nations Championship (CHAN) is, it is a national team tournament played in non-AFCON years (using domestic league players only) because clearly a biennial AFCON isn't enough.
When they first introduced this tournament I thought it would replace one of the AFCON tournaments and each would be held every four years. I got that wrong, but I still think it would be a good idea.
Infantino relaunches expansionist vision with more FIFA competition at its heart: http://www.insideworldfootball.com/...s-expansionist-vision-fifa-competition-heart/ Part of that is a review of the international match calendar...
Got a number of calendar decisions at tomorrow's FIFA Council meeting. Here it is at item number five on the agenda: https://img.fifa.com/image/upload/opfcgmeta93xao0xpaxw.pdf
I know. Its just interesting because it seems like they announced Qatar as the host of the 2022 WC a lifetime ago, meanwhile the host for the women's tournament that is being held a few months later is just being announced now. Its almost like FIFA were trying to get away with something they knew was wrong. But that can't be...
Press conference on in about 90 min: https://www.fifa.com/who-we-are/news/follow-the-post-fifa-council-press-conference-live
Yeah, that's the point I was making. Basically, if you can't prepare for a WC in 3 years you probably shouldn't be hosting. Qatar was the extreme case. I believe they announced them as hosts some 12 years before the tournament. When the tournament is so far away it limits the amount of backlash that FIFA would get. Plus you can make all sorts of BS promises. And then when you can't keep those promises, you can hope that people simply forgot they were ever made.
Qatar simply put never should have hosted in the first place but if all stuff came out about corruption as far as the votes, then right away they should have been stripped
From today's meeting: So a couple things: 1) If continental football in South America is a go by September, then these will be the windows for WCQ: Sep 2020 Oct 2020 Nov 2020 Mar 2021 Jun 2021 (2 games before the Copa América) Sep 2021 Oct 2021 Nov 2021 Mar 2022 2) If Concacaf's getting 2 extra matchdays in June 2021 to make up for sitting up September 2020, doesn't that leave enough space for Montagliani's tire fire of an original Hex/Tier II format to play out? (Let me be clear: it's absolute garbage, I'm just speculating as an academic exercise). For example: Oct 2020 - Nations League Finals, 2021 Gold Cup playoffs R1, friendlies Nov 2020 - 2021 Gold Cup playoffs R2, friendlies (the last chance for teams to make the Top 6) Dec 2020 - WCQ draw Mar 2021 - Hex matchdays 1-2, Tier II group stage matchdays 1-2 Jun 2021 - Hex matchdays 3-4*, Tier II group stage matchdays 3-6 (Gold Cup in July) Sep 2021 - Hex matchdays 5-6, Tier II quarterfinals Oct 2021 - Hex matchdays 7-8, Tier II semifinals Nov 2021 - Hex matchdays 9-10, Tier II Final Mar 2022 - Hex 4th/Tier II winner playoff Jun 2022 - Intercontinental playoff, 2023 Nations League group stage matchdays 1-4 Sep 2022 - 2023 Nations League group stage matchdays 5-6 * Hex teams can use the extra matchdays for pre Euro/Copa América friendlies
Update: Concacaf has now confirmed that the WCQ format will change. Given this news, I'm predicting the Euros will start in July. Don't see how the UEFA leagues can be completed before the June FIFA break. So players will have to return to their clubs to play the final 4-5 league & cup matches before the transfer window opens and contracts end on 1 July. And then kick-off the Euros around 10 July(?).
The Euros will take place from June 11 until July 11 in 2021. That's already decided: https://www.uefa.com/uefaeuro-2020/...aed-1000--euro-2020-all-the-fixtures/?iv=true
So if the FIFA international dates are cancelled in CAF, AFC, Concacaf, in September. Meaning no official competitions, could any of these teams play friendlies in Europe ? I dont see why not, especially if all their players are based in europe.
