The game was a little bit important but what can Magath do if the team isn't fit?

Regardless... bottom line... WHERE were Sagnol and Lucio? Was this truly one of those moments where a player loses a ball in a poor position of the field as those two are committing forward??

Makaay missing a PK definitely hurt.

Lessons learned... Fuel for the fire when they meet in the regular season.

Ismael was really poor against Stuttgart and the defense didn't really do their job.

But everyone misses penalties, even Makaay...plus he hasn't missed many has he? So I think we can excuse him for that. Also, after someone has their PK saved, its up to him and the rest of the team to make up for that missed opportunity, so let's blame the entire team, not just individuals.

In the end, this game isn't that important, no one notices or even recognizes this little cup anyways.

This will also make the season games more interesting.

It was Makaay's first miss, he was something like 12 of 12 the last 2 seasons.

Let them make mistakes now. This is the best way for Lucio and Ismael to start really feeling each other out (sorry if that sounded bad) and the rest of the back line for that matter.

I don't want to maike anyextensive comments on this match as i only got back today and had no TV where i was so i couldn't see the game, i only read the highlights off text messages so i will just say that i am naturally delighted with the result no matter how unimportant the liga-pokal is. Obviously i am hoping we can repeat it in the BL but that remains to be seen. For now i am overwhelmed, and surprised, as i didn't think Trap could make the team this competitive this early.

No big loss for you guys, you guys will be favorites in both BL and Pokal this year, as you guys are every year, but before i have the opportunity to perhaps celebrate what would be our first title of the new millenium.

your are absolutely right... get it over with now. There will be some struggles in the early going as well, but lets hope things are kicking on all cylinders a bit earlier this year than last. It makes all the difference in the world come CLS time.

Just from what I saw, VFB was deserving of the win from style of play standpoint. They looked the more possession oriented team. Bayern looked like an all-star team that was getting its first chance to play together... a bit out of sorts, terribly sloppy at times, and way too much reliance on the long ball forward to counter with.

Trap will do some nice things with Stuttgart... he was certainly entertaining to watch on the sideline, constantly crouched down off the bench using each play as a learning tool for his players. Good for them. I hope they sign the other Danish player as well. They should be a fun team to watch, and Hildebrand will keep them in a lot of games.

Hey bro... They are going to need some adjustment and it is going to take a while. I can see us losing a couple because of these defensive lapses early on....BUT the gamble might pay off in the offensive part?

    to everybody else
Let's stop kidding ourselves.....we knew that the defense was going to be a little suspect, especially this early. Give 'em time gang!

a few days ago I went to my first football game in the new arena in Munich. Bayern Munich played VFB Stuttgart. Bayern ended up losing after missing a penalty and then conceding a goal to make it 1:2 in the 90th minute. The stadium was pretty full (50 thousand people).

This arena is also where the opening game of the 2006 World Cup will take place.
