Violator is excellent, one of the few albums I can listen to entirely without interruption.

I like Blasphemous Romours off of the Singles 81-85.

Clean is a great track. Pretty much all of Black Celebration and Music For the Masses is quality.

All of Violator is amazing ("Halo" and "Waiting for the Night" are staondouts).
Other than that album, my faves are "To Have and To Hold" and "Condemnation".

I dig the remixes. I liked "Useless" done by Kruder & Dorfmeister.

I think Never Let Me Down is a classic song, period, not just a classic Depeche Mode song.

I could be in this thread all night, they are my second favorite band of all time. I would have to say my top 2 would be Enjoy the Silence and the live version of Everything Counts on 101, which is my favorite live track, period. Somebody would have to be right behind those.

Some of the lesser known songs I am very fond of are Here is the house, Insight, Halo, But not tonight, Mercy in You, Home, One Caress and New Dress. More popular but also faves would be Stripped, Only when I lose myself, It's no good, Just can't get enough, Policy of Truth, Things you said, and Strangelove.

Also, they have a great web site, very fan accessible.

Off topic, did anyone get David Gahan's new album, Paper Monsters? Heard a cut I wasn't blown away by, but haven't heard the whole thing yet. Regardless, I am a huge fan of his. Amazing voice. Drug habit wasn't to shabby either, ahem.

I have nothing but respect for Martin Gore. Besides the fact that he took electronic songwriting to a respectable level, he just writes brilliant songs. And he covered Durutti Column, which is always a plus in my book.

A lesser known song that I always like was "Photograph". Not a cover of the Def Leppard tune, but just as brilliant. :)

Early DM: "Get The Balance Right".

Mid-period DM: "Never Let Me Down" always chills me and grooves me at the same time. One of the best drug songs ever (maybe time for a best "Songs About Drugs" thread!).

Recent DM: "I Feel You" is probably their last great tune. The squeal at the beginning of that track is terrifying and beautiful.

Just about every song of theirs is good, they are by far my favorite band. But if I had to pick one song, it'd have to be Never Let Me Down. I Feel You is the best one to do Karoke to.

"See You".... it is a regular love song with nothing special, but somehow whenever I hear it I think of my high school sweetheart....

A bit surprised nobody mentioned "When the Body Speaks". A good, chill song.

FYI, I was listining to bbc 6music and music journalist Gary Crowley advised there will be a new Depeche Mode album next year.

This year saw Martin Gore and Dave Gahan release solo albums, with Fletcher taking some DJ gigs but doing nothing too serious as I understand.

So, maybe in 6-8 months we can add to this thread, though exciter wasn't a tremendous effort. I liked Ultra, but they have been more spotty since "songs of faith and devotion" came out.

Just ordered Gahans album and it will arrive in the post tomorrow.

Freelove on exciter was a good song..
    The other tracks were forgetable.
