Steven Scott Harwell - 56 (January 9, 1967 - September 4, 2023) Steve Harwell, former Smash Mouth front man, dies at 56
Steve Harwell was from Campbell, San Jose and went to a local high school, Blackford. I had some mutual friends who were close to him He was only 56 years old. So sad! RIP!
Aw, damn. My favorite song from his solo career was probably "Our Love Is Alive" over "Dream Weaver"; but my favorite song he played on wasn't his:
I was reintroduced to this tune a year or so ago. Had forgotten it. My Love Is Alive is my fave, tho.
David McCallum, 90; "natural causes." Early in NCIS, when Kate is still adapting to her new job, Ducky (McCallum) spouts a monologue of romantic, poetic metaphysics at her, reverting her to a wide eyed, breathless adolescent reeking of estrogen, and as he turns and walks away she turns to Gibbs all gushy and says "Gibbs, what was Ducky like when he was younger?" Gibbs looks at her with a trace of distaste and says "Illya Kuryakin." I've spent about a decade trying to decide if that was the most massive and brilliant shattering of the fourth wall ever, or really perfectly in context and entirely within norms. Either way, I think it was the best line in the history of television... As for McCallum, he was formative to any male watching TV in early adolescence in the mid sixties. A Russian who was a good guy, infinitely smoother that Robert Vaughn's Napoleon Solo, and a style icon for the spy show era. Turtlenecks were suddenly cool-- along with calm and intellect. Bell bottoms and paisley were just around the corner, but we did not know that yet, and James Bond and the Rat Pack were still the coolest people going, and Illya fit right in with that milieu... RIP. What you did may not have cured cancer or brought about world peace-- but it did make the world a better place in some not entirely trivial ways.

RIP Russ Francis, tight end who played for the New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers! Former NFL Star Among 2 Dead in New York Plane Crash (msn.com)
I remember him, but for some reason I had him playing for the Raiders. Confused him with Dave Casper.
John Gordon, designer of Packer's iconic 'G' logo, dies While I'm sure most people couldn't pick him out of a lineup, there may not be anyone whose sports logo is more famous and immediately recognizable.
80, apparently in his sleep? John Huarte won his Heisman. A low point for the DAC...1964. Probably still wants one more shot at the Lions...
For a couple of years in the off-season, Francis was a pro wrestler too. I remember seeing him in a couple of matches in the late 70s/early 80s on Wrestling At The Chase from St. Louis. 'The Chase' was the Chase Park Plaza Hotel which served as the venue for St. Louis televised wrestling way back when.
A sad day in football Catly who stood behind SAF sadly gone. My sincere condolences to Sir Alex Ferguson and his family. May his wife, Cathy Ferguson RIP.
