Happy 72nd Birthday to Dolly Parton. Born Jan 19th, 1946 in Locust Ridge, TN. The guy that comes in and sits down at the end of the clip is Porter Wagoner, for whom she actually wrote the song. It was a farewell to him as she was ending their partnership and going out on her own.
You won't believe it. I don't believe it myself...but I turn 95 years old today. Enjoyed visiting with @oakridgeboys & my cousin Dodger great Steve Yeager. Oak @oakridgeboys sang beautifully as always & heard It Takes a Little Rain twice! Great song. Great day. #birthdaygift— Chuck Yeager (@GenChuckYeager) February 13, 2018
Kevin Smith, 47, barely misses winding up in the other "famous person" thread. https://slate.com/culture/2018/02/k...tal-after-suffering-massive-heart-attack.html Smith had just finished the first of two tapings for his stand-up special Kevin Smith Live! at the Alex Theater in Glendale, California, when his heart attack struck. Smith made it through the 6 p.m. show but canceled the 9 p.m. one, telling fans that he probably would have died had he not done so (this is one of the better reasons to cancel a show). Smith shared further details in a Facebook post, as well as reflecting on his life:

What better way to celebrate 92 than releasing music with the exquisite @dianakrall! Listen to "Fascinating Rhythm" and order #LoveIsHereToStay now! https://t.co/K4iL8hm1Om pic.twitter.com/qDqeNd5FrT— Tony Bennett (@itstonybennett) August 3, 2018

Insofaras any American poet has been close to famous in my lifetime, excepting Allen Ginsberg, it's been Lawrence Ferlinghetti, who turns 100 today. Still has all his marbles, still writing, still showing up at his bookstore, the legendary City Lights Bookstore of San Francisco.
I was looking up (feebly) voting results for Bonaire, when my mind wandered to Desmond Tutu for some reason. I kind of thought he had died. He did not. He is 87 until October.
I remember being forced to read the 'Mouse and the Motorcycle' in fourth? grade. Thought it was a waste. I was trying to fight my way through 'Nicholas and Alexandra' at the time.
