Revolution Signs Fagundez to Multi-Year Contract Extension

Nice to see the kid's gonna stick around, although I believe this means he's no longer part of the off-budget roster.

Good move. Can't risk losing someone like him for nothing. Should see a decent transfer fee within the next two years I'd think.

I've always wondered how this works. If this is a "contract extension," wouldn't that mean its still a HG contract?

I really wish the league would start releasing some details. Like you know ... how long is the extension?

    But good news.

Well, the kid has potential, I'll give you that, but how many can't miss kids washed out by the time they were 23?

If by the end of this season he is able to work his way into a starting role, score, say, 7-8 goals and his overall game progresses, then maybe I'd agree, but the kid has a long way to go before anyone is going to want to pay good money to pry him away from the Revs. And if that happens, maybe then he can decide if he wants to play for the USA in every World Cup of his career or be the guy to take over for Diego Forlan. But not until then....

I agree with this, it's still early with Diego and he could go either way. As is, he's not really a top choice for Uruguay's U-20s (I remember hearing on a broadcast their coach considers him an "emergency callup" at best). His age 18-20 seasons will be key for him if he wants to go play abroad. His size will always work against him (he's not really going to get any bigger) so he's going to need to find a way to compensate for that.

That's why I said within the next two years. I didn't say someone's going to come calling in, say, July. I also said "decent" transfer fee. $500k-$1M, maybe more if he lights it up over these next couple seasons.

    I don't think that's unreasonable.

He's going to have to show it with skill...I certainly hope he just isn't another one of those kids that runs circles around his age group(Freddy) but fizzles when he's muscled out of the play!

Messi is small, but compensates with vision and that ability to be a step ahead! I hope Diego masters that and continues to grow(in awareness of where he is on the field)

I wonder if this precipitates a move to Rochester? At first, I thought they would wait until he graduates high school this June. But then I remembered reading something during the training camp in Arizona that, IIRC, Diego was studying while there in order to graduate early?

Edit: I wish I had read the other thread first...

That's because Adu was 4 years older than those kids.

I thought, and I could be totally wrong, but once an HG, always an HG. That is why the number of players they can sign is limited. Well, part of the reason.

NOTE: The terms Homegrown and Generation adidas are used to describe mechanisms by which players are acquired. They are not roster designations. All players’ roster slots are determined by their compensation and/or age as outlined above.

    AND

There is no limit to the number of Homegrown Players a club may sign in a given year.

The mohawk and "windy-city" hairstyle from last game grants him at least 4 more inches. ;)

Krafts gave so much $ to Diego, they had to sacrifice a Pats player.

And you people say he doesn't care!

He has been. It's a relatively difficult process in his situation.

Oh I know he has been, it just's the first time I've seen anyone, let alone Fagundez, actually mention it, even if not directly.

'Course he's going to have to double as a slot receiver in order to earn that salary.

If he had only agreed to return punts, he probably could have received a bit more.

Or kick field goals.. He could have won a couple of souper bowls and still not given the accolades he deserved! Just give them to the guy who has Bieber's haircut..!
