The league should take this and Minnesota's shaky start as omens. They've expanded as far as they should, for now. Even it out and that's it.
You can flip that too. The league should take Atlanta's hot start as on omen and continue expansion with well prepared teams. MinnU was suppose to start their first season in 2018 unless LAFC wasn't ready. United found out they would need to be ready to go for ' 17 in August of '16. Atlanta knew they were starting the 2017 season in April of 2014.
MLS will eventually expand to 28 or 30 teams. Whoever doesn't make the expansion train in this latest round of expansion will have another shot later...
Can confirm........The legend @didierdrogba is coming. https://t.co/YUPv5WRbNc #RisingAsOne #Drogba2PHX #RaiseYourGame" pic.twitter.com/NPrBpBph2A— Phoenix Rising FC (@PHXRisingFC) April 12, 2017 I think you guys may be underestimating Phoenix a bit. I sure as hell did. This ownership group is serious. They already have a perfect piece of land in an ideal spot, they are drawing well in a temporary facility, and they are sure as hell are acting like they want it.
======= if the league went to 32 teams, then I have no problem with SAC & SD. The only city I was sold on in the Midwest was STL and that just went down in flames. The midwest/rust belt, like the other poster said, may have been the core of the other major sports in the country, but the growth in this country for the future is going to be from the SW into the SE "sunbelt". Thus i see teams in Miami (eventually), Charlotte/Raleigh, San Antonio, Nashville, Phoenix, maybe Las Vegas or OKC.
I absolutely agree. Given the start of their USL team (6k+ attendance) and their land acquisition and this, I think they may be moving into the top three (with StL dead). Depending on what happens with Miami, I could see Tampa, SD, Phoenix as the next teams in line.
No love for San Antonio? Who already have an 8.4k stadium with plans to upgrade it to 18k and average over 6k as well?
San Antonio doesn't get the respect it deserves. Hopefully the MLS powers see strength of the SA team's bid for a franchise (or whatever you want to call it...share of the confederacy?).
