If a European Football League is created what twenty teams do you think should start in it for the first season? (There would be promotion and relegation so it would change but just for the first season.)

The teams should be geographically well spread out over Europe. But some big clubs have to get in straight away no matter what.

    Could have:

Benfica – big club from far west

    Celtic – northern Britain

Liverpool – big club from middle of Britain

Chelsea – a London is needed (south)

Real Madrid – big club, doesnt matter where they are from, they're in

    Barcalona – big club

PSG – a Paris club is needed

    Marseille – south of France

    Ajax – northern Europe

Bayen Munich – middle of Europe

    AC Milan – big club

Juve - nearer Milan but they are a big club

Roma - Need a Rome team

    Brussels club

    Moscow club

    Kiev club

    Turkey club

    Hungray club

    Swedish club

    Greek club

    No point in debating.

    Never going to happen.

And if it ever does, the European league will not include any Premiership clubs.

Actually it is very likely it will happen.

With the EU continueing to strengthen....it will seem logically to have an all europe league some time in the future.

What about the national associations (with second, third divisions and further down) You make a European football league 2nd division? You merge them alltogether?

Might as well send a Europe team to the WC.

Dumb idea, IMO. There's already the Champions League.

extrapolation is often a poor assumption when it comes to football, but if club football gets too stratified with the top clubs opening too much of a gap to the rest, I can see it at very least being discussed seriously - and I don't see any way currently for the rest to close the gap on the top clubs. Even if tv money was distributed more evenly (not something the top clubs are likely to offer willingly) the merchandising income for the big 4 in England just dwarfs what other clubs get. There's a real danger of a "Rangers & Celtic" effect taking place if things carry on the same way for a few more years. Rather than taking the lion's share of the floating support, the big 4 will take all of it.

Wasn't the Premiership created because the top clubs wanted to be apart from the rest of the FA?

That isn't the future. That happened years ago.

Do you really think any club apart Chelsea/Manchester/Arsenal/Liverpool will win the EPL?

Do you really think any club apart Milan/Inter will win the Serie A?

Let's not kid ourselves, it's all so predictable and boring. An european superleague is inevitable.

5 years ago would you have listed Chelsea as guaranteed competitors? There's a lot of rich kids buying into the EPL at the moment and they all want to win - no-one knows what will happen in the future

There is only one "real" rich kid and that's Abromovich. The other financial subscribers are scrubs by comparison.

Really? So Hicks and Gillett are paupers? How about Randy Lerner? Magnusson and Gudmundsson are in the process of pissing money up the wall at the moment. They may not have the funds Abramovich has access to but they have more than enough to build a team that can compete for titles in the coming years - whether they will or not is another matter

And STEAUA where is? He won the Champions League in '86 and another final in '89! The best team from East, Steaua, why isn't here? Just a mention: we beat Dynamo Kiev with 4-1 this season (away) so we are still the best team in this part of Europe ...

I'll go along with this fantasy and say:

Premier League: M. United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea.

Serie A: Juventus, AC Milan, Inter Milan and Roma.

Spain: Barcelona, Real Madrid, Valencia and Sevilla.

    France: PSG, Lyon and Marseille.

Bundesliga: Bayern Munich, Werder Bremen and Stuttgart.

Portugal: Benfica, Sporting and FC Porto.

after picking 6 top leagues, the limit of 20 gets overpassed...even in dreams isn't likely to happen...
