So, beginning from August 31 and ending on September 18, the European Basketball Championship (known as Eurobasket 2011) will take place in Lithuania. Teams could qualify by placing in the top two of their group, and then FIBA announced an expansion giving seven more teams places at the international tournament, and also two additional group qualifiers got tickets to Lithuania. There'll be six venues altogether at Eurobasket, and they are: Zalgris Arena (Kaunas, LIT), Siemens Arena (Vilnius, LIT), Siauliai Arena (Siauliai, LIT), Cido Arena (Panevezys, LIT), Alytus Arena (Alytus, LIT), and finally Svyturio Arena (Klaipeda, LIT). As for the groups, there a four in total. Here they are: Group A Poland Great Britain Lithuania Turkey Portugal Spain Group B Italy Israel France Latvia Germany Serbia Group C Bosnia and Herzegovina Croatia Finland Montengro Macedonia Greece Group D Bulgaria Georgia Russia Ukraine Belgium Slovenia The top three teams from each group make it to the second round, consisting of two newer groups. In these six-team groups, the best four qualify to the knockrounds where one loss and you're out. Every qualified team has broadcasting rights to their games, and 16 other countires (mostly made up of none-European countries) have rights too. I'll be rooting for my home nation, Bosna i Hercegovina, throughout this competition and I doubt we'll make any kind of impact. Any thoughts? Also, all discussion, news, photos all go here. Finally, a link to the official/wiki website: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurobasket_2011 http://www.eurobasket2011.com/en/
In this group favorites are: Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Greece. I don't know how does Montenegro plays. This group sounds like Balkan Championship. Croatia plays against Finland in the first match. Group C Bosnia and Herzegovina Croatia Finland Montengro Macedonia Greece
I agree, Bosnia, Croatia, and Greece should be in the top three. But I'm afraid Ratko Varda's absence will take a toll on our chances for success here...
But I don't know how it will look on that EURO for Croatia. Greece is favourite number 1 think. I don't know any of these Bosnian players: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bosnia_and_Herzegovina_national_basketball_team In what basketball situation is Bosnia? What can they do? Croatia lost against France in preparation match very hard, 20 baskets cca of difference. Remember only Dzevad Alihodzic, Haris Mujezinovic (they played in Cibona Zagreb in 90's), and Croatian from Citluk (Western Herzegovina) Barisa Krasic played for Bosnia. Others are unknown for me. Also in Croatian national team played Damir Mulaomerovic (Bosniak Muslim heritage) and now Damir Markota is playing for Croatia, his father was also Bosnian Muslim - last name Omerhodzic, but Damir took his mothers last name who is Croatian. In 90's Croatia was one of the best teams in the world, now we are 6,7 always. Also there are many Croatians from Western Herzegovina heritage: Zoran Planinic, Mario Tomas, Marin Rozic, Mario Stojic, Stanko Barac, Dalibor Bagaric, Matej Mamic, Josip Sesar, Franjo Arapovic, Nikola Prkacin...and maybe some others. These players are all from Herzegovina heritage, Croatian ethnicity, that's why they play for Croatia. I think that this is going to be boring predictable EURO basket. Spain is pure favorite, others are mostly average, maybe Turkey, Lithuania, Russia and Greece can win something. Croatia will again be 6,7. You have Miralem Pjanic in your avatar, Dinamo Zagreb will play against Lyon soon. Great player, fantastic free kick. He scored once in Madrid for 1-1 and Lyon kicked Real. I know that he was growing up in Luxembourg, his family escaped from Bosnia during the war.
Our basketball situation is pretty bad right now. It's not the talent that's the problem, definitely not, it's the KSBIH. They perate all things Bosnian basketball. Now, they are to cheap to get our best players, don't try convincing players like Emir Preldzic to play for us, and got our youth systems in terrible shape (all Division B but one of the teams were to close to Division A this year). As for what we can do at Eurobasket, we'll probably make little to no noise this year in EC 2011. At best, we'll get to the second round and then fail. At worst we get 4th-5th in our grop in the first round. So basically, we have potential as a basketball nation that we won't reach until we get new leaders, like our football FA have done. It's sad really, when you think about it... As for Pjanic, he's my favorite player in the world. I love his style of play, fast-pace with creative dribbling along with a passive mind. He can also score when needed to. He was born in Luxembourg and played for their youth team, but eventually chose to play for us (Bosnia) at the senior level. *proud*
Yes, never seen any new Bosnian player on bigger scene. I am sure that they have talent, same as in football. Do you think that Basketball Federation does bad job? Prepucavanja... Multi-ethnic situation is big problem there. Do you believe in that conspiracy story about Serbian Zvjezdan Misimovic who pretend to be injured and after that he played very well for Wolfsburg? Miroslav Blazevic said that. Pjanic was born in Tuzla. You could lose great player, but he couldn't do nothing for Luxembourg, they are bad.
We've got a couple future prospects in Miralem Halilovic and Adnan Hodzic. As for our Basketball Fedreation, they haven't done bad. They've done terrible!! I don't believe the conspiracy on that. Here's where you can watch all the games: http://www.fibatv.com/europe/live And there might be some on ESPN3, but I'm not sure.
I saw online that Croatia plays today against Finland. They done terrible in Bosnian Federation because no one cares, same is in the football. In which sports is Bosnia and Herzegovina good, except football? Don't know any tennis players, except Cilic, Dodig, Ljubicic who play for Croatia. Handball is ok in Bosnia. Handball club Bosna playes ok in European Cup. They could have ski drivers, Jahorina is popular ski resort. Are you from Sarajevo? Nice presentation of thread EUROBASKET.
We're good in fotball and decnt in basketball, that's it lol. Mostar. Anyways results so far today: Group A: Spain 83:78 Poland Turkey 79:56 Portugal Lithuania - Great Britain Group B Serbia 80:68 Italy France 89:78 Latvia Germany - Israel Group C: Montenegro 70:65 Macedonia Greece 76:67 Bosnia and Herzegovina Croatia - Finland Group D: Belgium 59:81 Georgia Slovenia 67:59Bulgaria Russia - Ukraine I'm so proud of Bosna for not losing by more than 10 points to the best team in our group. We lost to Greece by like 20 in the prearation games a few weeks ago. Alsso, Georgia had a shocker, in terms of point differential. A good first round so far.
You are from Mostar. Ha Ha. Herzegovina. East or West? There isn't any surprises like I see. High differences. Sounds strange that match Belgium - Georgia. Big victory for Georgia. Didn't knew that Belgium is so weak. Was Greece good team, attractive?
Croatia Finland 84 -79 Match was really bad. It is more difficult than expected, a Croatian national team at the opening of the European Championships in Lithuania, came to the first victory by defeating Finland score 84:79. The most prominent individual in the ranks of our players was Bojan Bogdanovic with 27 points scored. Croatian national basketball team after a great deal of preparation has announced that finally moving in a positive result at the European Championships in Lithuania. However, the show plays at the opening of the competition does not bode well. Weak, but the heart and fighting Finland, showed 'teeth' to our basketball players who have fished most of the encounters result. In the last quarter would judge the quality Vrankovićevih chosen, but the game presented by our basketball players could not promising. The trials began with a series of many on both sides. Finland took the 17:10, so Croatia turned to 24:19. Again, the Scandinavians have entered into a series and led to 26:24, then 35:29, but the Croatian players managed to pull rank, play a more concentrated, and the rest to go with a small delay of 43:41. In this first part of Finland broke the Croatian defense threesome, but below that Croatia played a far calmer and wiser. They began to control the game, especially defensively. To be joined with a great offensive night Bojan Bogdanovic who finished the match with 27 points and shot 6:8 for the three points. He also had seven rebounds, two assists and two steals. Below is Vranković team mostly water, but Finland is two minutes before the end came up to 73:72. Then followed two three-pointers (Bogdanovic and Markota) and the match was thus resolved. Ante Tomic added 14 points and eight rebounds. Popovic scored 12 points and Markota 11 points and seven rebounds. The country was the best Koponen with 14 points and six rebounds. Croatian coach Josip Vrankovic:

Croatia won against unknown Finland almost in last moments. Terrible. What can we expect against Greece. Coach and his members probably depended on improvisation, with words: "We can win, Finland is weak", like always we have two opponents, our mentality and opponent. I watched this match with breaks, thought it would be easy, bad actions, just ordinary passes and who was free at all, he would shoot. Croatian Zoric sucked, lost some balls, they played like amateurs.
So far today: Group A: Portugal 73-87 Spain Great Britain 61-90 Turkey Poland - Lithuania Group B: Latvia 77-92 Serbia Israel 68-85 France Italy - Germany Group C: Bosnia 94-86 Montenegro (So glad we defeated Montenegro today! I'm sure we can finish third now!) Finland 61-81 Greece Macedonia - Croatia Group D: Bulgaria 68-65 Belgium Georgia 58-65 Russia Ukraine - Slovenia So, my opinions from games today are that not many surprises, and some good games. But boy, Belgium just sucks, a 20 point loss to Georgia (debuting nation in Eurobasket) and now to Bulgaria (before to day hadn't won an Eurobasket game in 9,000+ days). I also expected more of Great Britain. I thought Israel could do better but they are missing Omri Casspi, and finally Bosna i Hercegovina!! We won a game at Eurobasket for the first time in about 14 years!! Our nation is only around 15 years old though, and I'm glad we have a great shot at getting to the next round.
Everything is predictable, like before, nothing new. It's strange how UK, Belgium, Holland, Scandinavians don't have good basketball. Not many teams is good in basketball. You have 5,6 European teams, USA, Argentina and maybe Puerto Rico. Almost like in waterpolo or handball. Congratulations to all Bosnians o that victory. Good luck in further matches.
Slovenia is good also, they had some NBA players. Mostly their players are of Serbian, Bosnian, Croatian or Montrenegrin heritage.

Results up to date (at least for today ): Group A: Spain 86-69 Great Britain Portugal 73-81 Poland Turkey - Lithuania Group B: Serbia 89-80 Israel Latvia 62-71 Italy France - Germany I really have to say, Latvia have surprisingly played good. They've competed in most of their games. Otherwise, the usual. I'm looking foward to watching France - Germany.
Again dramatic for Croatia yesterday, we lost against Macedonia. Tomorrow Montenegro. Against them we must win. Saw that BiH has a great result against Belarus in football. 0-2 was.
I think Coratia can defeat Montenegro, although it could be a big fight from them. All results from today (articles in parentheses): Group A: Spain 86-69 Great Britain (http://www.eurobasket2011.com/en/coi...leMode_on.html) Portugal 73-81 Poland (http://www.eurobasket2011.com/en/coi...leMode_on.html) Turkey 68-75 Lithuania (http://www.eurobasket2011.com/en/coi...leMode_on.html) Group B: Serbia 89-80 Israel (http://www.eurobasket2011.com/en/coi...leMode_on.html) Latvia 62-71 Italy (http://www.eurobasket2011.com/en/coi...leMode_on.html) France 76-65 Germany (http://www.eurobasket2011.com/en/coi...leMode_on.html) Tomorrow's games are all from Group C & D. ---------------- And yeah, that results against Belarus was 2-0. Awesome feeling (no hom).
I don't nothing about their basketball, maybe they have club Buducnost, like infootball, not sure. I gorfot also Greek team, remember that Sofoklis, Hatzivretas I think, Papaloukas. From BiHknew that 3 players who played in Cibona (Mulaomerovic, Alihodzic and Mujezinovic). Haven't seen whole match, Belarus is medium quality, but they are coming to higher level, played great against France, won there, but after that, they had problems. Tems from ex Yugoslavia could have good scores against ex Soviet Union countries. Croatia hasn't lost from any ex Soviet Union country I think, except Georgia.
Yeah they did good on the last eurobasket (2009) & world championship (2010) so we'll see if they can keep it up. So far so good.
