Sorry if this was already posted somewhere else but I didn't see it. Merge if necessary. I think many of us have been hoping for this exact kind of thing from ESPN for a long time. They'll focus on more than just MLS, but MLS will be part of it. Hopefully this thing gets good ratings. http://espnmediazone.com/us/press-releases/2013/05/espn-to-launch-daily-soccer-studio-program/
Watch parties! We need stuff like this. I am in the favor of channels like Fox soccer dying due to channels producing real material and competition being heavier for the soccer dollar. nice to have MLS following confederation cup matches now.
The problem with FSC dying is that we will likely stop getting fringe programming like postseason galaxy tours, friendlies, occasional Open Cup matches, and most worryingly CCL...
Dear SUM, Three words: PPV internet streams. Is that technically more than three words? How should we tally acronyms? Sincerely, Soccer fans with internet connections P.S. Free streams would be even more awesome.
Streams aren't the same as a TV broadcast unless they are on demand. For example Concacaf actually streams all the CCL games, but if you can't watch one, you can't just set your DVR.
Fine. Make them on demand. The model here should be MLSLive, not the crappy CONCACAF feeds. To me MLSLive is the future (not just of soccer, but sports in general). So I don't mourn the loss of FSC, and I'm not worrying about "fringe programming" disappearing. It's just going to move to the internet, like everything else. And that experience improves every year. Last night's USOC games are a great example. Are those on demand? I don't believe so. (Maybe they are, I haven't checked.) But next year, perhaps they will be.
Found this on Wiki/Press Pass During the European club season, ESPN FC Press Pass pays particular attention to the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A and the Bundesliga. So it sound like: 1) same amount of airtime, except broader exposure and extra 30 minutes on Sunday. 2) more highlight driven; a little less commentary 3) drop, Bundesliga, Serie A, pick up UEFA, MLS, US & Mex National teams. (although this part doesn't seem to be a lock, as the lists doesn't seem exclusive, just examples.)
hoping is not 55 minutes of epl, 2 minutes of la liga, 2 minutes of mls and the rest for latin american soccer and the rest of europe
fsc used to be cool till they turned into "being liverpool" tv, glorifying epl and trashing la liga and serie A
It will be better than the Gossip Girls edition they have now with Press Pass, but it will still suck. I hate ESPN's format with the forced arguments. If you think they will spend more than a few minutes on MLS per episode you will be disappointed. 35% Mourinho/Chelsea, 25% Manchester United/Manchester City, 4% Arsene Wenger, 12% Real Madrid/Barcelona, 4% Bayern, 4% Inter/AC Milan/Juventus/Roma, 4% Rest of Europe, 4% South America, 2% Africa/Asia/Australia, 4% MLS, 2% women's football. I hope I'm wrong but "starting in August" makes me feel like it will be all EPL all the time the first 20 minutes of the program.
Considering that ESPN Press Pass barely, if ever, covers MLS, there is only way for this thing to go.
Ill watch it if is about MLS if, not, Im good with BeinSports, the best soccer channel in America. The funny thing is, Spain is 3-0 in the Uefa U21, England is 0-3 but somehow, according to FSC's great analysts, la liga is just full of divers and there is not "pace" in their game. If there is not MLS on that show, it will be completely ignored just like fsc.
I think there'll still be a home for games like that once Fuel becomes Fox Sports 2. Also, Fox Soccer Plus will still be around, it isn't being dropped by Fox just yet.
they do talk a lot about the national team. I wish they had mls, that will be just perfect. At least they dont talk about epl 99% of the time and air "beingliverpool" 7 days in the week. If BeinSports can get MLS, they will be just perfect, they already have some usmnt games.
Thanks for that info. I honestly don't even consider BeIn, except when the USNT is playing/pre-grame show.
Since BeinSports started, most of the other sports channels have been ignored till College football and nfl starts. Fox Sports in Espanol has Libertadores, MLS and Concacaf CL, thats my second sport channel.
This seems like the worst possible time to drop Bundesliga coverage. The German league is as stable as it gets, Dortmund is a very good squad, and Munich looks to be one of the next superpowers.
If beIN Sport gets MLS, MLS TV ratings will literally disappear. So will their sponsorship money for TV since that's partly based on ratings. I enjoy their programming, but they're barely a fringe channel at this point.
