Because the best way to unify a fractured fanbase and probably contentious locker room is to appoint a Dutchman, historically renowned in soccer for their diplomacy and deft touch at resolving disputes.
In a vague order: Pereja Ramos Heaps Kreis Olson Mastroeni Hackworth Van den Bergh Anyone else in the current youth set up Any former player with a license My mom/your mom Klinsmann Diego Armando Maradonna Kenny Arena (for the lols) Fine, Sarachan is the best we can do at that point.
A little bit show to bring in someone new. A lot of picking his brain and different training methods. You have a coach and program that right now are in neutral. Wouldn't hurt to put them together. Besides, it may work out long term.
None of it actually matters until next August. Aside from placating the fanbase, it would serve little purpose other than to waste money.
The claim was that the $100m was the surplus from Copa America, not the accumulated surplus through the years.
Really, we could probably just shut the program down until after the WC and it won't make a bit of difference.
Agreed, but then I don't have tangible whipping posts to vent about online. I guess Sarachan is the perfect choice in a way.
The Olympics are in 2020. Jan camp could be used to start building that team and we could schedule Canada. I started liking the Canada game because I figured if somebody actually scored a goal he deserved to be celebrated. Maybe the Koreans would like a game. I wouldn't mind seeing guys like Durkin, Carleton, Adams, Glad, Lennon with guys who will still be right age in 2022 like Trapp, Roldan, Delgado, Zimmerman etc. Would a Mexican youth squad sell tickets in LA?
It's still borderline useless as a senior MNT camp/game, and it definitely doesn't matter who's the "manager". They should raffle off the right to manage the team to a fan; it means that little.
I would assume all those guys had contracts that ran until after June 2018. Why would you expect the Fed to eat a 2nd coaching staff's contract in 12 months?
I want to be as optimistic, but I think this is not so much to tempt a big international name to come, as to allow the outrage to die out so by next September everybody is ok with Tab named to the permanent position.
Isn't this how Bob Bradley ended up with the job? Promoted from assistant to interim after Bruce was ousted following the 2006 debacle, then promoted from interim to permanent?
Very, very, very different set of circumstances. For example, he was appointed in the fall of 2016 as interim, after we had qualified for a World Cup. Not 9 months before anything matters as a lame duck.
Bradley was appointed in the fall of 2006 after we flamed out of a WC Group with only a single point after we had been FIFA ranked as high as 5th in the world,
