Who is discounting it? I don't dispute what he wrote. I just don't think having some success based on an infux of cash in a Scandanavian club in any way relates to what his abilites are in MLS. It is night and day different here.

I dont think fans are saying he is lacking the commitment or desire to do well...just the US/MLS experiance to do well or be expected to do well. If Agoos is advising him god help us all.

This is the big question mark. If he is a smart guy and a creative problem solver, then he might be able to figure things out within MLS and quickly get Agoos out of the way. If, however, he's just good at spending someone's money, then it's hard to believe this will work out well.

I find it hard to be enthused about someone I've never heard of. The only solace is that I also find it hard to be disgusted about someone I've never heard of. So, I guess that leaves me feeling... non-plused... tentatively hopeful... The problem is, I want to be enthused.

Maybe if they'd just announce the guy and he started making some decisions, we might get some real idea about what we're in for.

Maybe they're really onto something. Maybe they want Jeff Agoos around so they can do exactly oposite of what he recommends. One can only hope this is the case...

Did I miss something or has Red Bull not actually made an official announcement about this?

Nothing official yet. Official introduction pending a work permit, presumably.

Can anyone explain WTF the hold up is? Are they that damned inept have they not learned from their own past?

Is Beierdrinker too busy with the Landesliga and the bundesliga and whatever other liga to be bothered with officially announcing this or any other guy? The Draft Combines in less than a month and training camp is what, a little over two months away. HELLO Red Bull????

You do know that Agoos is the one getting Soler's work permit, don't you? :)

Soler has done NT GK Thorstvedts daughter as well.

Chicks all ages fall for him. He is nothing short of a small prize.

    Which will happen first?

    a) The official RBNY announcement of the hiring of Soler.
    b) The MLS Draft.
    c) The first game in the new Red Bull Arena.
    d) The 2010 World Cup match between South Africa and Mexico.
    e) The first game of the 20018 World Cup in the new Meadowlands Stadium.
    f) Everything from b through e.

One thing about this is intriguing. Will Soler continue to be part owner of IK Start? What does this mean for the Red Bulls?

He hasn't been for a while. He's been a soccer pundit on Norwegian TV recently.

Done deal here's the announcement and interview. Link

Speaks the Ingles decently and admits he knows jack about the American Soccer scene. Let the Soler reign begin and hopefully he's renting.

    These guys are doomed.

    You know why?

There is nothing the New York public hates more than outsiders coming into this city pretending to be more talented than New Yorkers.

New Yorkers are the most talented people on planet earth! (At least, that is our perception of ourselves.)

Getting a guy from Norway to run a New York team is a bit like getting a guy from Sweden to coach the English national team. (I mean, didn't England invent the game and create the rules? A guy from Sweden is going to understand the game better than the talent pool in London alone?)

On the positive side, Soler seems to know something about soccer, which is more than can be said for Stover and DeGrandpre.

    But it won't be enough.

New Yorkers like homegrown talent. New Yorkers respond to homegrown talent. New Yorkers root for homegrown talent.

It's a bit difficult for me to get it up for a Norwegian working for an Austrian.

This franchise will only succeed when it reflects the city whose name it bears.

    For example....

How much more would the New York public and media pay attention if the General Manager were Shep Messing working for owner Donald Trump?

    But, whatever....

I guess we're stuck (for now) rooting for this organization of carpet-bagging outsiders who know nothing about American soccer, New York City, MLS rules and quirks, and/or the New Jersey youth and amateur soccer communities.

    Good luck, fellahs.
