Who's up for playing MLS Sheep? There are other cities on BigSoccer that have their own league (DC, NE, Houston, KC, and maybe Seattle) and we were approached about running one here for the upcoming season, which would begin in about a month or so. Exact date yet to be determined. "How do you play?" you may be asking. (the following is courtesy of nobius, and slightly edited by me) How to play: Each Wednesday, for eight weeks, 15 caterogies/questions will be posted. You send a PM to me with your answers (don't include the questions please) to all 15 categories by noon on Friday of that same week. The goal is not to answer the questions correctly, but to guess what will be the most popular answer. (Example: if the category is "Best Player in MLS" and you think the correct answer is David Beckham, but you think everyone on the Philly board would say Jozy Altidore, then you should answer Jozy Altidore as well.) You will score points based on how many people answer like you. If 15 people answered Jozy Altidore then you'd get 15 points for that question. Whoever scores the most points after all 15 categories will win the week. Scoring: The weekly winner will get the same number of points as people who entered the game that week. If 25 people played then the winner would get 25 points. Second place would be worth 24 points, third would be worth 23 points, last would be worth 1 point, etc. First place will also receive a 5 point bonus for the win. These points will be accumulated throughout the 8-week season and whoever scores the most will win the league. Players accumulate points over the entire season and then we have standings based off of it. There will be tiered divisions like European soccer with promotion and relegation (depending on the number of active participants). There is also a Cup tournament for each season. The top 4 players from each of the leagues all qualify for a Champions League, currently happening in MLS: General. So, if you're interested in participating, please reply in this thread.
Re: MLS Sheep [Inaugural Philly Season] I'm in. Dills your effin' avatar is driving me crazy. I'm instinctively reaching for the monitor. (Faster than you can change avatars.)
Re: MLS Sheep [Inaugural Philly Season] A little update: There will be 7 leagues running concurrently ... Philly, Columbus, Dallas, DC, New England, Houston, and Kansas City. For the first season, there will not be tiered divisions. The final standings in the first season will be used to split people out starting in Season 2. I wanted to let you all know that from the get go, so you know that the standings matter. Top 20 will constitute the 1st division, 21-40 will make up the 2nd division, and if there are more than that ... 41-60 will be the 3rd division. After the 2nd season is over, there will be promotion/relegation between divisions. The top 4 at the end of the season will qualify for the Champions League and compete against the top 4 from all 7 leagues. We might also have the players finishing 5-7 in each league qualify for a Champions Cup, which could function as a 2nd tier tournament just like the UEFA Cup does. That is as of yet still undecided. Games will probably begin the 2nd or 3rd week in April. Oh, as moderator of the Philly league, I cannot participate here, but will probably take part in either Columbus or Dallas (the other 2 new leagues).
Re: MLS Sheep [Inaugural Philly Season] Hey guys. Welcome to the wonderful world of Sheep. I am the moderator for the DC United league. We're just now finishing our 4th season (some other leagues are in their 3rd season). We are probably starting up again in the 2nd week of April. The best part of this game is that there will now be 7 leagues across Big Soccer, all coordinated with each other (DC United, New England, Houston, Kansas City, Philadelphia, Columbus and Dallas). So you can finish in the top 4 and qualify for the Champions League against all the other top 4 finishers. After your first season, you'll be split into tiered divisions and you'll start having promotion and relegation. There are Cup tournaments as well. Pretty good stuff. Basically we're set up just like European soccer. You can skim through the thread we had for this past season. It will give you a pretty good understanding of how it all works. https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=642710 Good luck and welcome aboard!
Re: MLS Sheep [Inaugural Philly Season] Count me in for this, too. I just love finding new ways to avoid work.
Re: MLS Sheep [Inaugural Philly Season] ill play, im in college (at Drexel and right now am on coop, which is like a paid intership) ive got lots of free time and i would love to play. plus this will help me get up to speed with the mls by the time philly starts playing (i know so much more about the EPL then the MLS)
Re: MLS Sheep [Inaugural Philly Season] drexel!! yeah baby! uhh, but keep in mind that it's not just MLS-related questions/categories. some examples of those used in the past include: - Smallest country you've been to - Best game show on TV - Favorite type of seafood - Next DP to be signed by an MLS team - Weirdest place that people pierce themselves - Rye, Wheat or White and it's not about getting the correct answer, but submitting the answer you think most of the people participating would say.
Re: MLS Sheep [Inaugural Philly Season] not all about footba...i mean soccer, then count me out....haha jk thanks for clearifying tho, it sounds fun
Re: MLS Sheep [Inaugural Philly Season] Consider me sold on this idea! I love the promotion/relegation and Champions League aspects to this. Looking forward to seeing this all play out, gang!
