The game is minutes away from being rendered a dead rubber game..
unless italy score twice in 8 minutes against a packed defence.

Sterling and Welbeck at CM? Doubt that would work.

Utilized more in attacking wing fashion...with Barkley drifting back for help in midfield.... Think outside the box...

its so easy to pick a balanced side in any formation

jsimply, don't use rooney 'in the hole' or out left and play people in their correct position and bingo

That isn't a how a diamond works. What you're describing is essentially just a 4-4-1-1.

I'm notsure you do. The point of a diamond is to give you more players in the middle, and the CMs in front of the DM shuffle across to protect the fullbacks instead of the wide players who otherwise would. What you're describing is at best some sort of weird 4-1-2-1-2, but certainly not a 4-4-2 diamond.

Dude, I'm not going to argue tactics with you.. If I confused you with writing 4-4-2 diamond in my original post, I'm sorry. This ain't my first rodeo...

    cant you re-apply?
now that you're back posting .

Hodgson getting backing is very depressing. We can never change unless the entire FA organisation is torn down and replaced with something else...

Good chance to rest Rooney and give some other younger players a start, like Shaw, Barkley, Lallana and (brace yourselves) Smalling . Chamberlain if fit - but more likely as sub.

He really should give the young players some of that mythical 'tournament experience'. What else is the game good for? Lampard will play but that's a waste of a spot IMO.
