He's been in top level form for 1/4 of a season. He hasn't arrived and any narrative that he has done isnt helpful. He said himself that he needed more end product and that's what Southgate told him had to happen before he could expect to start for England. That carrot seems to have worked so Southgate should get some credit for not indulging him before time. I'm sure Jack will be disappointed with only a single decent chance created and no shots on target against such a weak opposition and rightly so.

    I
He won't be disappointed with his MOTM award. Numbers is an obsession here, there's more to football, he was surrounded by 3 players all the time and created several openings that allowed other players to create the chance. Highlighted here between 0.17 and 0.30.

This is what England has been missing for years.
Besides He's been top 3/4 in Europe at creating chances for a year and a half. I wouldn't give Southgate any credit on Grealish.

Looking at his match highlights clip I feel pretty sure he wasn’t disappointed with his night’s work ... his only regret would have been not being on the pitch for the last 20 minutes when Iceland were down to 10 men and blowing out of their backsides. He’d have had a field day !!

He's literally said himself that Southgate told him that and that has been his aim. He used to create a lot of key passes through crosses and freekicks which are generally lower probability chances. Whilst still a useful skill to have they are less likely to result in a goal on average. Last season he created only 8 big chances, this season he's on 6 already. He's clearly improved a lot and his desire to get in the England team is a big part of that.

I agree that he's given us an extra dimension which was evident against Belgium. His hold up play play, ball retention and free kick winning ability is a form of defending from the front which protects the rest of the team and allows us to get up the pitch.

I'm certain that he would've wanted to directly affect the goal more against Iceland. He's an attacking player who states that his career aim at the moment is to achieve more end product through goals and assists.

This is not a Foden vs Grealish debate for me. I think Grealish can be even better, as can Foden. Foden still has a lot of work to do but is 5 years younger so gets more slack in that regard.

Barkley as well. Him and Grealish link up very well together at Villa so it would be good to have this ready made chemistry for England performances as well.

He might not get in, I think we have to face facts that there’s going to be some very good players miss out on selection. I didn’t think I would be saying that 2 years ago.

I think that unless Maddison changes position for his club and excels there, then there's next to no chance that he'll be going to the Euros.

I was thinking more along the lines of dropping into central midfield. If he can't force his way in front of Harvey Barnes at Leicester City then he's not going to have much hope of being called up to the England squad to play in a front three.

he doesn't have to force his way in front of Barnes he's played with him, he's never going to drop into the 2 in CM as we have Tielemans, he's been playing in the front 3, been every bit as good as Grealish, although differently as he doesn't tend to run with the ball as much but Grealish is the current media darling, until he has something they jump on him for like Maddison did when watching a game in a casino

It's pure fantasy to say he's been as good as Grealish in the PL this season. He's barely played for a start. He's done well in the Europa but the groups stages in that competition is too low of a level for the England NT to take note.

Grealish has been near the very top of the attacking stats across the whole of Europe so far this season.

neither they are at the same level, though Grealish gets more hype as there is less around him, Vardy gets the hype for us

Which one of our right backs is going to be left out? It’s a tough one...

    I’d take

    TAA
    James
    Walker

If we play a back 3 he could feasibly take 4 given James and Walker can play in a back 3. In that case Trippier as well.

How many chances does TAA get? I would prefer dumping him at this point.

I think Sancho is much better from the left wing (as shown by his goal and assist this week.)

I feel a bit sorry for him that he always has to play on the right for Dortmund and England.

I think that of our attacking options, only Foden and Greenwood prefer to play from the right so that they can cut inside onto their left foot.

James trent lamptey. I would class walker as a centreback. I think its time to ease trippier out the national team. Great servant and quality player but need to look to the future

He’ll be like Sterling. They’ll keep playing him no matter what.

Sancho is cursed by the fact he’s much better than most right footers on the right in modern systems. It means he’ll often get played there because of the paucity of left footed players.

Damm, that’s a hot take. Glad Venables wasn’t that way inclined before Euro 96 or Shearer would have been left at home.

Due to a mixture of injury and strong competition Trent AA has played remarkably few minutes for England considering how good he has been at club level. I don't know where anyone would get the idea he's been squandering opportunities. None of his competition is better suited to playing the RWB role in Southgate's newly preferred system.

I think the only time he played in this new system was playing wing back with wingers which didn’t work imo as just cramped the space that he would usually exploit. Think he would have thrived this week having players like Foden, Grealish and Mount affording him more space on the right hand side because they were playing with more freedom to roam.

What are the chances of Trippier being unavailable because of the betting charge?
