Absolutely. Forget the fact that Rashford consistently plays well and impacts games in an England shirt. If the BBC Ratings and Fireburn's keyboard warriors don't like him, Southgate's got no excuse for picking him!
That he does but I could easily see Southgate deciding to start Foden over him because of recent club form and that Foden was better against Scotland as there is not much in it between very talented players.
Dunk makes his return for Brighton despite being ruled out the other day. The loss in Europa league showed his importance to that team. Feels like Chilwell has been permanently dropped for Colwill at Chelsea. Will that be what Southgate does (With Trippier starting of course.) and calls up Colwill to be the Trippier cover. Or will he possibly call up yet another player who is not starting to add to Maguire, Phillips and Ramsdale. Shaw won’t be back until March for England. It’s perfectly possibly Ramsdale only minutes between now and November will be League Cup matches. Not a great situation for the number two England goalkeeper to be in and not something Southgate I suspect expected until August.
The Arsenal XI for the North London Derby! 🔴⚪️Happy with the team, Gooners? 👇#ARSTOT #Arsenal #AFC pic.twitter.com/hh9Za0M90G— AFTV (@AFTVMedia) September 24, 2023 So much for having two no1. Pretty clear what was happening. Don't know why Arteta lied about it.
It was to try and ease the transition but it came across like a politician and sometimes it is better to be honest like Pep was when he disposed of Joe Hart. If it wasn’t for Maguire and Phillips his England place wouldn’t really be questioned straight away but those two plus issues with Chillwill and Henderson possibly still being called up will add to a feeling of debate.
The problem is a lot of people believed him. People will stop trusting what he says in the future. Hope he was honest with Ramsdale behind closed doors.
Who knows. A report today said he will take him time about if to decide to leave but there have been whispers he is not happy at all.
I imagine it was a surprise as I doubt he was told when he extended his contract that he wasn’t going to number 1 for much longer.
I could see Ben Chilwell pushing to leave Chelsea as early as January if he drops out of England contention before then. He is openly desperate to make the Euros and won’t do so being on the Chelsea bench. Southgate will just have Shaw with Trippier as cover from March onwards.
Good grief. He's only missed two games and you're already wildly predicting that his Chelsea career is over. Players are allowed to have a dip in form you know.
It can be hard getting back in through at non Europe playing teams where there is typically less rotation.
Rice replaced at the NLD at half time - suspected injury. If he misses England then we surely going to get a Henderson, Phillips Bellingham midfield are we not
Calf bandaged up apparently, rarely a long term injury. On the more serious side he'll miss England in October, but more likely they took him off to avoid a long term injury.
Half time replacements tend to not be long term issues because the majority of very serious injures mean going off immediately. But of course the Italy match is three weeks away and he could miss that. Could be the difference between being seeded at the Euros and not being seeded (Surely qualification is not in danger.)
Declan Rice didn't re-emerge in the second half of the North London derby due to a calf injury. It's an issue Arsenal have been managing since the summer. https://t.co/ht4LkfF3Mp pic.twitter.com/Us31L0XoSP— Mirror Football (@MirrorFootball) September 24, 2023 They haven’t done a very good job of managing it. His record has been 81 mins of the community shield. Then two full 90’s. Then subbed off at 91+1. Then two full 90’s for England, Then another full 90 and then 76 mins in the CL. Chronic injures are the worse to get over as well.
13 English players in the Newcastle vs Sheffield United fixture? Where's Fireburn at? Interesting that we never talk about Dan Burn as a left back option for England. Despite him playing for a top four team last season and he's appearing in the Champions League this season it's like he doesn't exist. Elliot Anderson gets another start as well.
It just feels unlikely to me Dan Burn would ever get called up. He feels like a player who has a good PL career but never gets an international sniff. 13 is very good plus with high English numbers on the benches as well. If TAA can get back before the next call up then could TAA, Bellingham Henderson/Phillips work or would that fail.
I don’t think Southgate would do that. I honestly think he will go Phillips, Henderson, Bellingham against Italy. No idea against Australia. Would Southgate use a rice absence to call up a midfielder who wasn’t called up last time even if they not a direct replacement . Angel Gomes? James Ward - Prowse? Jacob Ramsey? Curtis Jones?
Burn plays left back very much like an extra centre back. Creates more freedom to Trippier, but he doesn't bring much quality on the ball and absolutely zero in attack. Newcastle really overachieved last season but it seems they're bumping up against the lack of quality some of these players have on the ball this season.
