Article with the top players at each position: https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/2023-mls-superdraft-top-prospects-by-position Sounds like central midfield is weak in this draft, but depth & potential impact players are available on the rest of the field. Given where we're picking, forward/winger/center back would make sense in Rd 1. Rd 2 and onwards, I imagine we'd be hoping to hit on an outside back or goalie. The draft has gotten kinda odd. Every U20 USMNT player is now a pro. But there's still value to be had in the draft, with teams consistently finding starters and sometimes even future stars (Matt Turner, Daryl Dike, etc). It's more of a crapshoot than ever. Watching some highlights, Paul (forward) and Mohammed (wing) seem high potential. Some folks like CJ Fodrey, but he's young and we already have Fletcher & Hopkins as development prospects there. Given our utter lack of depth at forward, I'd be interested in Paul; I like his strength on the ball. Highlights here:
Regarding Paul above, it would be nice to add some speed, he has that. Looks pretty strong on the turn. Has some moves on the dribble. His whole game needs to tighten up, but I can see potential there for sure. I say this after having watched an 8 minute highlight clip, so...
Only 3 Wednesday home games. One of those is the All Star game , so only 2. I guess that is one good thing from Apple.
If Messi ends up signing with Inter Miami there's a good chance our home game against them on Saturday July 8, 2023 will be his league debut. Last year the secondary transfer window (when you can officially register a player) opened on Thursday, July 7, 2022...
I would expect our all-stars to pay against whatever team he currently plays for. Unless the opponent's already decided for 2023, then it'll be the year after. That seems to be the trend. The MLS-AS vs MexicoLeague-AS was an interesting little twist last year, but I still prefer it to be an all-MLS event. I care more about the fun of the game than the TV ratings though, so I and the league office have different objectives I thought I noticed a Tuesday game in July against The Burn™ I would love to snag Paul (I have an unhealthy affinity for UW), he's pretty fast and I've enjoyed seeing him a few times this year. But I don't think forwards from the draft fare as well as defender-types do. We tried a fast forward with some ball skills last year (technically 2 years ago) with Smith from Clemson, but every time it appeared he was breaking into the regular first team line-up he'd get benched for a month in favor of some slow-ass single forward - forwards seem to be an afterthought to "top" soccer coaches any more, especially ones with speed instead of being able to stand still and hold the ball for some mythical onrushing midfielders.
I would hope we have a similar turnout when DC wins the Alan I Rothenberg cup again! that is a crazy amount of people Buenos Aires celebration packed with ~5m people. The Argentina team bus couldn’t drive through, so they had to call in helicopters 🤯 https://t.co/Yc5eLUpFDS— Trung Phan (@TrungTPhan) December 20, 2022
Did not see this coming. CF Montreal have named Hernan Losada as their next head coach.Losada was with D.C. United for little more than a year. pic.twitter.com/ZVJROcOeom— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) December 21, 2022
I had a premonition they would do this. This would be a good way to get some young, inexpensive, quality depth with a GA player. Whoever they get had better not be 40 years old, expensive, and on crutches.
DCU has traded the No 2 overall draft pick to Orlando City for Brazilian right back Ruan, per sources. He has made 91 regular season starts in four years. Age: 27. #mls— Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) December 21, 2022
Yes. He’s a dirty player and not the kindda guy I want to root for… thinks back to Felipe and feels like that’s not happening again.
