Somebody posted a news article from Detroit yesterday. Now that same inference--San Jose only has one pro sports team--has spread to the Chronicle. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/artic.../01/BAG33DHL0Q1.DTL&hw=san+jose&sn=003&sc=950 Email the writer, Dave Murphy: dmurphy@sfchronicle.com
Sorry, but the article by Murphy states: "The other cities in the top 10 all have high-profile sports teams. San Jose has only the Sharks -- who joined the rest of the National Hockey League in missing all of last season because of a lockout -- but for years has been trying to lure a Major League Baseball team from San Francisco or Oakland." The writer is correct in this statement when he writes about "high-profile sports teams." The MLS, AFL, San Jose Giants, and Women's Professional Baseball, are not high-profile sports. After all, ESPN did not even show MLS hi-lights on SportsCenter following the match on June 25.
What a dumbass----there is actually only one sports team in San Jose...The Mighty Quakes. Last time I checke the NHL wasn't playing any games.
Which is a disgrace as far as I am concerned! Here is a sport that the UNITED STATES is actually getting very good at (our FIFA ranking is a testament to this) and yet, very little media coverage is given!
You are correct. So was Murphy when he wrote: "San Jose has only the Sharks -- who joined the rest of the National Hockey League in missing all of last season because of a lockout" RIF
While we might be passionate about the team, and the sport, soccer is still struggling to get a finger hold onto the high-profile sports mountain.
Spartacus, if SuperQuake wants to move to the dark side, that's their choice. After all, some people do watch Bill O'Riley.
You are not too far from the truth; I only speak of Dallas... but the fact that we love to brag about everything and anything we svck monkey valls in regards to cable/satellite subscriptions.
That piece of crud Bayless was a true arse hole. He would thorow out smack just for the sheer schtick factor. A total blow hard... He was fired from two newspapers, two radio stations and one TV station in his stint in Dallas. I last heard he was at the Mercury... I think I've seen him on espn and or Foxsports whatever....
The NFL's Super Bowl, NBA's Finals, and MLB's World Series are all "world championships." The winner will be American (any Canadian team that might win will still be "American")!!!!!!! This shows the United States' tendency to look differently at the world. It's like Texas' view of the rest of the United States. Soccer is an international sport where the US can lose.
So did the world tilt off its axis when Baltimore won the Canadian Football League all those years ago?
